HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-08-17 Board of Public Works Minutes r/(y ' August 17, 1964 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane, Board Member Watt and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on proposed drain ease- ment in Lots A and B at the Northeast corner of Waverly Road and Hillside Road (Stephen Ferrari - owner). Easement is ten (10) feet wide and abuts side lines of Hillside Road and Waverly Road., No one attended the hearing. Mr. Ferrari had previ- ously signed and filed a Release from Damages in favor of the Town. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to make the proposed taking for storm drain purposes as described above. The members present signed the Order of Tak- ing. (See Plan #500-S-127). Hearing was held at 7:45 P.M. on proposed pole loca- tion of a jointly-owned New England Telephone & Telegraph Com- pany and Municipal Light Department pole on Batchelder Road, Westerly side, approximately 100 feet Northerly of Pole 8OB; also remove one (1) pole. Mr. Cooley, representing New England Telephone & ' Telegraph Company, attended the hearing. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the re- quested location. 80 At 8:00 P.M. the Board received bids for installa- tion of Water Main from 100-Acre Station to Salem Street at 1 Main Street. 1 Bids received were as follows: - Name Base Bid Alternate Bid Crognale Const. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to hold a Board Meeting on August 31, 1964 and' to invite the Town Counsel to attend and discuss legal aspects of the Contract. Read note from the Superintendent relative to contin- uing Sidewalk Construction Program now that the sidewalk on Pearl Street is virtually completed. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to start construction of the sidewalk on the Southerly side of Hartshorn Street between Lowell Street and John Carver Road and proceed as far as funds will permit. The Board considered bids for furnishing and laying 81 about 800 tons of Bituminous Concrete on various streets. The bids follow: - Trimount Bituminous Concrete Co. $5.59 per ton Essex Bituminous Concrete Co. 6.00 per ton Warren Bros. Roads Co. 6.34 per ton It was moved, seconded and voted to award the con- tract to Trimount Bituminous Concrete Company. Signed Billroll dated August 14, 1964• Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
