July 20, 1964
Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30
P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane,
Board Member Watt and Superintendent Welch.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:40 P.M. to meet
as the Board of Survey.
The Board reconvened at 8:10 P.M.
Conferred with Government Study Committee - Messrs.
White, Larson, Good and Nordberg and Mrs. Hayward. The discus-
sion was informal with no agreements or commitments. Several
subjects were discussed, such as - Board of Public Works items
which might be done by other departments, items done by other
departments which might be done by the Board of Public Works,
Town Manager, city form of government, capital expentitures
program, expansion of Engineering Department, cooperation be-
tween departments, plus other items.
Received and approved curb application from George
Theophanis, 86 West Street.
Received letter from Mrs. Stark, 72 Winthrop Avenue,
praising work and actions of Department employees.
Received letter from 68 Hillcrest Road requesting
Bituminous Concrete sidewalk.
It was moved, seconded and voted to write to the owner

of/'Rillcrest Road to see if he might also apply for Bituminous
Concrete sidewalk and thus complete a block.

Considered report from Superintendent relating to a
request by Dr. McNulty of Wakefield that the Town of Reading
extend the water main in Hopkins Street to service a 60-bed
nursing home which he proposes to build at the end of Tarrant
Lane. Tarrant Lane is part of the Nike Site and is United
States Government owned. The McNulty land is just east and north
of the dead end of Tarrant Lane.
The matter was taken under advisement.
Signed the Billroll dated July 17, 1964 and Payroll
for the period July 11 through July 17, 1964.
