HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-05-11 Board of Public Works Minutes i) 1 Play 11, 1964 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane, Board Member Leonard and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved as amended. Read petition from Alfred H. Dolben and Lucile E. Dolben requesting extension of the common sewer to 34 Longview Road to service their property. Mr. Cochrane moved that the request be taken under advisement due to the fact that the contract price is so near L to the budget that the Board may not be able to give a definite answer until it ascertains what the contingencies in the con- tract amount to; Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted. The Board signed Orders of Taking for the easement for the water main construction through the properties of Peter Cunningham, Mrs. Eleanor Butt and Mrs. Catherine Selfridge (see Plan #500-M-125). Conference scheduled for 8:00 P.M. with the Insurance Committee was postponed until May 18, 1964 at 7:00 P.M. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to Robert Penno, 102 Winthrop Avenue, pumping water onto the street. Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted that Mr. ' Penno be instructed that he has the right, under the supervision of the Department, to connect to the storm drain in the street at the northerly end of his property. Board Members Florence and Watt joined the meeting. The Board considered the 1965 estimated budget. Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to sub- mit the estimated budget to the Finance Committee, a copy of which is attached hereto. The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:20 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 9:00 P.M. Chairman Kenney and Secretary Cochrane left the meet- ing to confer with the Board of Selectmen in regard to the Town Dump. Mr. Florence acted as Chairman. Read note from the Superintendent regarding schedule of summer meetings. Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted that meetings be held on the following dates: June 8 and 22, July 13, August 17 and 31, and September 14; in the event of an emergency, on call by the Chairman. Read letter from Mrs. Marilyn Small, Secretary, Birch Meadow PTA, requesting permission to use the Birch Meadow area and ball field (south) on the evening of June 8, and as an alter- nate date in case of inclement weather, June 10, for their annual picnic. Mr. Leonard moved the request be approved, Mr. Watt seconded and the motion carried. Read letter signed by Jean S. and Lawrence W. Robbins, 17 Selfridge Road, and Margaret W. and John H. Russell, 31 Selfridge Road, requesting installation of a sidewalk area along one side of West Street from the end of Catherine Avenue to u3 Arcadia Avenue, and the opportunity to meet with the Board to dis- cuss the situation. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted that the Board meet at West and Willow Street, Sunday afternoon, May 17, at 2:00 P.M. to view the area. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to recon- sideration of the published regulations and fee schedule pertain- ing to the Town Dump. It was agreed to hold Item #10 on the Agenda in abeyance. Read list of bids on Chain Link Fence around the Tennis Court and Basketball Court at Sturges Park opened May 7, 1964, as follows: - Anchor Post Co. - Newton $2,484.00 Boston Chain Link Fence Co.-Dorchester 2,875.00 Armor Fence Co. - Wakefield 2,992.00 Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted to award the bid to Anchor Post Company, Newton, low bidder in the amount of $2,484.00. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to bids re- ceived on a variety of items. Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted to award the contracts to the low bidder in each case. Mr. Kenney, after meeting with the Board of Selectmen, stated that the regulations at the Dump would remain the same and L any complaints would be handled by the Board of Public Works. Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Florence seconded and it was 54 voted that Item #10 would be the first order of business at the May 18 meeting. ' The Board signed the Billroll dated May 8, 1964.
