' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30
P.M. in Room 16 of the Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane,Board
Members Florence, Leonard and Watt and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
The Board reviewed Water Construction and Financing
Programs through 1970. Discussed also was letter received from
Worthen -H. Taylor, Director, Division of Sanitary Engineering,
regarding acquisition of lands near Grove Street not already
owned by the Water Department lying within at least 400 feet of
the gravel-packed wells, -now owned by Harry Wonson and Carroll
' Berg respectively, and its possible impact -on the aforementioned
program. A discussion followed.
The `Water Construction and Financing Programs were ac-
cepted as a point of information. It was moved, seconded and
voted that the Superintendent prepare a plan of the lands in
question which will be reviewed by the Board and when approved,
forwarded to the State Department of Public Health as requested.
It was moved, seconded and voted that a letter be sent
from theBoardof Public Works to Representative Frank Tanner
regarding provisions of Senate Bill 276.
Public hearing was held at 7:45 P.M. regarding the pe-
tition of the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company to install
' underground conduits as follows.
Main and Franklin Streets Southwesterly from Manhole
74/104, located on Main Street extending to the

Southerly side of Franklin Street, then Westerly to
Pole 27/63, approximately 225 feet of underground
conduit. Conduit will be located in the space usually
reserved for utilities.
Mr. Robert Dunn represented the New England Telephone
& Telegraph Company. It was moved, seconded and voted to ap-
prove the petition.
The Board opened bids at 8:00 P.M. for Sanitary Sewer
Construction. They follow: -

Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted to take
the sewer construction bids under advisement contingent upon
Dun & Bradstreet's report on the three low bidders.
Read petition from Ralph L. Tarpin and Susan Tarpin,
1107 Main Street, requesting extension of the common sewer in
Main Street to service their property.
Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted
that the matter be taken under advisement pending the avallabil-
ity of funds after the completion of the sewer contract.
Read letter from Paul J. Meurer, 688 Haverhill Street,
requesting permission to pump water onto the travelled way.
Mr. Leonard moved that Mr. Meurer be requested to ex-
tend his discharge pipe to the catch basin and the necessary
information thereon be forwarded to him; Mr. Florence seconded
and the motion carried.

Read letter from Francis G. Wall, representing Mrs. Ruth
W. Greene, widow of Carle W. Greene of 15 Priscilla Road, request-
ing a review of her house connection assessment and a hearing be-
fore the 'full Board.
Mr. Leonard moved, it was seconded and voted that Mrs.
Greene be invited to 'confer with the Board.
The Board opened bids at 8:30 P.M. for furnishing chem-
icals to be used in the public water supply system as follows: -

Mr. Florence moved that the bids be taken under advisement; Mr.
Watt seconded and the motion carried.
Read letter from A. Harold Colburn, 42 Winthrop Avenue,
enclosing estimate of material and labor costs for the restora-
tion of his front lawn, front walk and tree to approximately re-
store them to the condition they were in prior to the damage
caused by the sewer contractor last summer. Mr. Colburn requested

that the damages be repaired by our Department or he be granted
authority to proceed with his own contractor, the bill to be
submitted to this Department for payment.
Mr. Leonard moved that a letter be sent to Mr.Colburn.
advising that when weather permits, his property will receive
proper attention; it was seconded and voted.
Read letter from Franklin C. Fancher, 11 Vista Avenue,
and Mrs. Amos M. McLean, 62 Pratt Street, requesting extension
of the sewer to service their respective properties; also the
residence of Mrs. Ruth W. Currier at 10 Vista Avenue.
Mr. Leonard moved, Mr. Florence seconded and it was
voted that the matter be taken under advisement pending the
availability of funds after the completion of the sewer contract.
Read letter from Mrs. Gordon W. Tennett, Parish Secre-
tary, Church of the Good Shepherd, requesting permission to have
Chute Street closed to traffic (except for residents) on May 23,
1961; from 10:00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M. during the annual Parish Fair.
Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted
to approve the request. '
Read schedule of hearingscovering various depart-
mental items which was accepted as a point of information.
Mr. Leonard moved', Mr. Florence seconded and it was
voted to request Mr'. Gillam, the Town Counsel, to confer with
the Board to discuss many of the basic problems of the Depart-
ment from a legal point of view.

Read letter from Salvatore P. D'Alessandro, 34 Win.
throp. Avenue, requesting sewer house connection from his home
to Weston Road. Mr. D'Alessandro agreed to waive the necessity
of a hearing and to accept the assessment.
Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Florence seconded and it was voted
to approve the request.
The Board signed the Billroll dated March 27, 1964.
