Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Messrs. Kenney, Cochrane, Florence and
Leonard and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Read note from the Superintendent in regard to letter be-
ing sent to owners of property who have granted easements to this
Department for sewer construction purposes thanking them for their
cooperation.
Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was voted
that the letter as outlined be sent to owners granting easements
through their property for sewer construction purposes.
Read copy of letter to the Board of Selectmen outlining
material to be signed necessary for the refiling of petitions for
' channel improvements to the @berjona River from Lowell Street to
West Street. The Selectmen were contacted by telephone in regard
to the aforementioned item.
Read reports to be presented at Town Meeting relating to
studies by consulting engineers on Refuse Disposal, Sewer Inter-
ceptors and Garage Expansion.
Mr. Florence moved that the information be presented as
reports of progress at the Town Meeting; it was seconded and voted.
Mr. Watt joined the meeting and Mr. Florence moved that
the Superintendent be elected Chairman Pro Tem for Board organiza-
tion; Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted.
It was moved, seconded and voted to elect the Chairman
by ballot. Ballots were submitted and counted by the Superintendent.
Mr. Kenney received five votes and was unanimously elected Chairman.
It was moved, seconded and voted to elect the Secretary

by ballot. Mr. Cochrane received five votes and was unanimously
elected Secretary.
Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Leonard seconded and it was
unanimously voted that Philip Welch be appointed Superintendent
for the year 1964.
Read letter from Rev. George F. Burnell, O.S.A. ,Rector,
Austin Preparatory School, requesting permission to use the base-
ball field at Washington Park on specific dates this spring. Mr.
Leonard moved that the request be denied, Mr. Cochrane seconded.
A discussion followed.
Mr. Florence moved, it was seconded and voted that the
Superintendent prepare a letter to be signed by the Chairman,
stating that the Board of Public Works regrets that it will be
unable to permit use of the field as requested.
The Board discussed and reconsidered transfer of funds
in the 1961E budget for development of the Birch Meadow area. 1t
was moved, seconded and voted that the matter of transfer of
funds be reconsidered at a later date.

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS ON THE LAYING OUT OF
TENNYSON ROAD
The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading having
determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity re-
quire the laying out of a town way under the provisions of law
authorizing the assessment of betterments, substantially in the
location hereinafter described, having complied with all require-
ments of. law relating to notice to the owners of land thereof
and of a hearing thereon, and having met at the time and place
appointed for such hearing and then and there heard all persons
present who desired to be heard, have laid out as a town way for
the use of the town running in a Southeasterly direction from the
1952 Acceptance of Tennyson Road to Whittier Road. The boundaries
and measurements of the said way as so laid out are as follows :
Beginning at a point, said point being at the South-
easterly terminus of the 1952 acceptance of Tennyson Road;
Thence by a curved line to the left having a radius
of 181.06 feet, by lands of John F. Evans Jr. and Mary T.
Evans and by lands of Thomas W. Woods and Dorothea J.
Woods, a distance of 204.66 feet to a point;
Thence S.390-41' -10"E. , by lands of James E. Gillis
and Helen I. Gillis, a distance of 75.99 feet to a point;
Thence by a curved line to the left having a radius
of 20.00 feet, still by lands of said James E. Gillis et

said plan being a part of this description.
We determine that no damages will be sustained by any
person or persons in their property by reason of the taking to be
made for this improvement. All acts in connection with said lay-
ing out are done under the provision of law authorizing the assess-
ment of betterments, and betterments are to be assessed therefor.
This laying out so made by us we hereby report to the
Town for acceptance and recommend that said way shall thereafter

be known as a public town way and named Tennyson Road, and that
the sum of Five Thousand Seven Hundred and "Pen Dollars ($5,710.00)
be raised and appropriated for construction of said "wady.

made for this improvement. All acts in connection with said lay-
ing out are done under theprovisionof law authorizing the assess-
ment of betterments, and betterments are to be assessed therefor.

be known as a public town way and named Stewart Road, and that
the sum of One Thousand Four Hundred and Ten Dollars ($1,410-00)
be raised and appropriated for construction of said way.

Town of Reading, in compliance with the provisions of
General Laws, Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of
the Acta of 1933, hereby certify that the list herewith
contains the name of persons against whom we have made
betterment assessments, together with the location of
the land benefited by the improvement and the nature and
amount of such betterment assessment.
And such list is certified to you for the pur-
pose of committing the same to the Tax Collector, as
provided by law.
