HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-11-29 Board of Public Works Minutes November 29, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Members Florence and Kenney. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read letter from Winsor Bruce, 235 High Street, re- garding improper grading on High Street which causes rain to by-pass the catch basin and stands along the side of the road the entire length of his property. Mr. Bruce requested that the situation be corrected . It was agreed to place the request on the list of projects to be done . ' The Board conferred with Messrs. Greulich and Petersohn of Boston Survey Consultants who outlined their experience in the field. The resume ' will be kept on file for future reference. Read note from the Superintendent which stated that the Special Town Meeting had been postponed from December 6 to Decem- ber 13, 1965. The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:50 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 8:00 P.M. Superintendent Welch and Mr. Galvin joined the meeting. The Board conferred with the Stoneham Board of Public Works in regard to Incineration. Chairman John Finnegan stated that the Town of Stoneham was definitely interested. The two Boards discussed informally the many facets connected with build- ing and operating an Incinerator. The Board adjourned temporarily at 9:00 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. The Board reconvened at 9:20 P.M. Read note from the Superintendent regarding balance available after all contracts are paid for the reconstruction of the garage and certain items of work which may be done in the future. It was accepted as a point of information. The Board received petition which was voted and signed by 55 employees of the Department requesting the follow- ing: - I OVERTIME PAY Time and one half to be paid for all work per- formed after 8 hours a day. Also, Saturday and Sunday work to be paid at time and one half. II HOLIDAY PAY Holidays falling on Saturday or Sunday to be paid at regular rates, rather than losing same as is now the case. III VACATIONS Four weeks after ten years continuous service. Three weeks after five years continuous service. The above to become effective on the anniversary date of employment. IV PAY RAISE A flat ten per cent pay increase for all em- ployees. It was agreed that the Personnel Board would be invited to confer with the Board of Public Works on December 6 to discuss prevailing practices in industry and what the Town policies will permit in respect to the requests contained !� ' in the petition. The Superintendent will request the employees to elect four representatives to confer with the Board on De- cember 20 . Discussion on the 1966 Budget was postponed until December 6.
