HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-11-08 Board of Public Works Minutesi November 8, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Members Kenney and Leonard and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to dis- position of the old large-sized oil burner which was salvaged at the Garage. It was requested by the Library Trustees that the burner be made available to them. Mr. Watt moved that the oil burner be given to the Reading Public Library, Mr. Kenney seconded . Mr. Leonard was of the opinion that approval should be obtained from the Finance LCommittee to transfer the oil burner to the Library Trustees. The motion was amended to read - contingent upon ap- proval from the Finance Committee. The motion carried. The Board conferred with Mrs. Trelegan of the Reading Belle Launderette, 583 Main Street, in regard to a commercial rate for laundries. It was Mrs. Trelegan' s opinion that because of the hardness of the water, she was forced to purchase phos- phates for use in her Launderette, which in turn cut her margin of profit to quite an extent. A discussion followed and the Item was laid on the table . Mr. Watt left the meeting. The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:00 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey in Room 2. I The Board reconvened in Room 16 at 9:30 P.M. Messrs. Galvin and Packard joined the meeting. The Board removed from the table the item of a com- mercial rate for water as requested by Mrs. Trelegan. Mr. Leonard moved in reference to the water rates in the Town of Reading, that they remain as is for all parties concerned; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. Public hearing was held for the purpose of taking an easement for drainage and sewerage purposes northerly of Briar- wood Avenue through private property. No one attended the hear- ing. Release from Damages had been signed previously. Mr. Leonard moved that the Board approve the taking of the easement in Brierwood Avenue and sign the Order of Taking; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. The Order of Taking was signed. Public hearing was held for the purpose of taking an easement for drainage and sewerage purposes easterly of Marla Lane through private property. No one attended the hearing. Release from Damages had been signed previously. Mr. Leonard moved that the Board approve the taking of the easement in Marla Lane and sign the Order of Taking; Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. The Order of Taking was signed. Copies of the Sewer Construction Program for 1966 through 1971 as prepared by the Superintendent were presented to the Board. The item was taken under advisement and will be discussed at the meeting to be held November 15. LCopies of the 1966 Board of Public Works Budget were distributed to the Board Members and Sub-Finance Committee. The budget was taken under advisement. The Board signed the Blllroll dated November 5 and Pay- roll for the period October 30 through November 5. Meeting adjourned at 9:50 P.M.
