HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-10-25 Board of Public Works Minutes ' October 25, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Member Florence and Kenney, Assistant Superintendent Watson and Town Engineer E. R. Louanis. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. The Board removed from the table the petition of the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company - Town of Reading Municipal Light Department presented at a hearing held October 18, 1965. The Board viewed the site on Saturday, October 23, and agreed that Pole 50/85 be eliminated from the cross-over. ' Mr. Frank C. Graupner, representing the Municipal Light Depart- ment, attended the hearing. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted that the revised petition be approved, as follows: - HAVERHILL STREET - Westerly side, approximately two hundred thirty-one (231) feet southerly of Timberneck Drive, Place four (4) poles southerly; also easterly side, remove four (4) poles and westerly side, re- move three (3) poles. Thomas Galvin joined the meeting and advised the Board that the Chairman of the Finance Committee approved re- tention of the John Deere Tractor for the present. It was agreed to proceed with the purchase of One New Bombardier SW48 ' Tractor. Read letter from Board of Selectmen regarding an o£- ' fer for Tax Title #538 which is land on Line Road shown as Lot 6, Plat 143 in the Assessor ' s Office. Letter was taken under advisement. The Board discussed removal of the water restric- tions. According to Mr. Watson, there has been no change in the water level. Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted that the water restrictions not be removed . Reed lettersfrom the Towns of Wakefield, Lynnfield and Wilmington in reply to the Board ' s recent letter to them in regard to Incineration. It was agreed to postpone any action until the meeting of November 1, after which time ap- pointments will be made and conferences held. ' Read letter from Herman Shapiro, 90 Summer Avenue, requesting conference with the Board of Public Works to dis- cuss water service renewal at his home in 1964, payment for which has not been received. The amount was placed as a lien on his 1965 tax bill. An appointment will be made for Monday Evening, November 1. The Board discussed the proposed Capital Budget Items - 1966-1975• Mr. Watt suggested a footnote be added to the effect that in the year 1967, the items Sewer Interceptors (Engineering - Construction) and Incinerator (Engineering - Construction) in the amount of $750,000.00 each (total - $1,500,000) will be raised by a bond issue to cover both pro- ' jects, with payments showing in the ensuing years.
