HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-10-04 Board of Public Works Minutes October 4, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7 :40 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Member Kenney and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. It was moved, seconded and voted to omit the meeting of October 11 as proposed unless called by the Chairman. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to bids sub- mitted by R. F. Davis Tractor Company and Timberland Machines, Inc. , on an Oliver Tractor and a Bombardier Tractor. It was suggested that a Bombardier be purchased at the gross price of $4,895.10 ' ($4,995.00 less 2% plus $100.00 delivery) since Timberland Machines offered a turn-in price of only $100.00 for the John Deere. After a review of the statistics, Mr. Kenney moved that the Board pur- chase a Bombardier SW48 Tractor. The item was laid on the table for future discussion. Public Bearing was held at 8:00 P.M. regarding the petition of the Reading Municipal Light Department to install underground conduit in Main Street - from Pole #54/81 approximately 114 feet northerly to Pole #54/82 on Main Street, 2-4" fibre ducts in concrete envelope . Frank C. Graupner represented the Municipal Light Department. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted to approve the petition. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the ' water level at both wellfields. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted to maintain the water restrictions. The Chairman informed the Board Members that the Pub- lie Works employees requested that they be allowed to work Saturday, October 2, in order to have Monday, October 11 off to complete a long week-end. Mr. Cochrane contacted Messrs.Kenney and Florence who concurred with Mr. Cochrane in allowing the employees to work October 2. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the action of the Chairman. Read note from the Superintendent regarding survey for water leaks . The proposed survey will be made by Associated Water Services located in Winchester. The work is done electron- ically as lectron-icallyas opposed to digging in the streets by other companies. A discussion followed . Mr. Watt moved that the Board accept the proposal in the amount of $1,950.00, Mr. Kenney seconded and the motion carried. The Board removed from the table the. item of purchase of a Bombardier Tractor. Mr. Watt expressed his concern of the brochure on the Bombardier but amended Mr. Kenny's motion to { the effect that permission be requested from the Finance Committee to retain the John Deere ( listed as a turn-in) through the winter; it was voted .
