HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-05-24 Board of Public Works Minutes May 24, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. 1n Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Member Kenney and Superintendent Welch. Bids were opened on One New Four-door Sedan, as fol- lows : - Grayls Ford Sales, Inc. $2,095.60 Blais-Porter, Inc. 2,230.00 Newhouse Motor Sales, Inc. 2,258.04 Bids were taken under advisement. Minutes read and approved as amended. The Board removed from the table letter from the Board of Selectmen in regard to sale of Tax Title Land, Lots #93 through 101, to Edward H. Smith, 63 Colburn Road. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted that the Board of Selectmen be advised that the Department cannot now foresee any use which it might have for the lots. Attention should be called to the fact that there is a proposed development close by which might enhance the value of the property. Read letter from Mrs. Dorothy Didham, Secretary, Birch Meadow P.T.A. , requesting permission to use Birch Meadow Softball Field and Picnic Area on Thursday, June 3, 1965, from 6:30 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Mr. Kenney moved that permission be granted, Mr. Watt seconded and the motion carried. Read letter from C. Russell Hoffman, Chairman, Fair Committee, First Congregational Church of Reading, requesting per- mission to close Sanborn Street from Woburn Street to Lowell Street on September 17, 5:00 P.M. to 12M, and September 18, 7:00 A.M. to 12M. Mr. Watt moved that the request be approved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted. Read letter from the Reading Antiquarian Society re- questing permission to close off Lowell Street between Woburn and Salem Streets on Friday, June 4, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 Y.M., and on Saturday, June 5, between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. for the purpose of holding parades, exhibitions and concerts. Mr. Watt moved that the request be approved, Mr. Kenney seconded and the motion carried. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the com- pletion of the Crognale contract as follows : - i Appropriation $321,384.00 Final Statement 320,918.90 Unexpended Balance $ 465.10 Mr. Kenney moved that the data be accepted as a point of informa- tion, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted. The Board opened general bids at 8:00 P.M. for Building a Water Pumping Station in 100-Acre Meadow, as follows : - Francis G. Falzarano General $7,660.00 Sub 2 000.00 $9,'660.00 Fulton Railing, Inc. General $11,650.00 Sub 1,400-00 $13, Mr. Kenney moved that the bids be taken under advise- ment, Mr. Watt seconded and it was voted. The Board signed the Payroll for the period May 15 through May 21, 1965 and Billroll dated May 21, 1965. The Board met with the Board of Selectmen and the Plan- ning Boardin the Selectments Office to discuss possible Nike Site acquisitions and use. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
