Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:40
P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board
Members Florence, Kenney and Leonard and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Read letter from George F. Burgess advising that his
company has entered into a financing arrangement with Elger
Corporation, Boston, Massachusetts, and requesting that proceeds
received from the painting of the standpipe contract with the
Town of Reading be assigned to the latter company. A discussion
followed.
Mr. Leonard moved that the Board adhere to the contract
and the request be denied. The Board is not concerned with the
finances except as they pertain to the contract; Mr. Kenney
seconded and it was voted.
Read note from the Superintendent with reference to an
abatement on the October 1964 water bill which amounted to $117.00.
It was explained that a leak on the property accounted for a pre-
vious bill of $75.00 and apparently had not been repaired.
Mr. Leonard moved that the amount of $20.00 be abated
on the present bill (April 1, 1965E Mr. Florence seconded and it
was voted. Mr. Kenney was opposed.
The Board opened bids on the 1965 Sanitary Sewer in-
stallation at 8:00 P.M. as follows: -

Bids were taken under advisement.
The following members were reappointed to the Recreation
Committee and Barrows School Committee - George Cochrane and
Fred C. Kenney, Jr. , respectively.
Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the visit-
ingof various incinerators by the Board, as follows: -
Brookline - about ten years old
Belmont - about two years old
Dedham - about two years old
Weymouth - new in late 1964
The Town of Weymouth is having open house at their new incinera-
tor on March 31, 1965, 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., and it was agreed
that the Superintendent and as many Board Members as possible would
attend. Visits will be made to Belmont and Dedham on the same day.
Mr. Leonard raised the question of reimbursement to him
by the Town for a day's pay in the event he finds it necessary to
' do Town work during his regular private employment hours. The
Chairman agreed to check the situation with Town Counsel.
Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the
Lions Club submitting a bid for fertilizer. After a discussion,
Mr. Leonard moved that the Lions Club be excluded from bidding,
Mr. Watt seconded and the motion carried.
Read note from Superintendent Welch in regard to the
offer of Myron Wing Associates to sell to the Torn some low
land at the rear of the Tucker land off Grove Street, opposite
Franklin Street. A tentative figure of $900.00 for 9 1/2 acres
has been mentioned. This is one of the several pieces of low
land lying near the Revay Water Supply.
' Mr. Watt moved that the Board proceed to take the
necessary steps to acquire the land through the proper channels;
Mr. Florence seconded and it was voted.
A new Proposed Sidewalk Construction program was pre-
sented to the Board. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Florence seconded and
it was voted to approve the 1965 program, consisting of West
Street (West side) opposite Selfridge Road to Wescroft Road, a
distance of 5,000 feet. Hearing will be held.
It was moved, seconded and voted to accept the balance
of the program as a point of information.
Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the
erection of a wooden fence instead of a chain link fence at the
' Little League Field. Mr. Kenney moved, Mr. Florence seconded
and it was voted to proceed with the erection of a chain link
fence.

General Lawa. Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of
the Acte of 1933, hereby certify that the list herewith
contains the names of persons against whom we have made
betterment assessments, together with the location of
the land benefited by the improvemont and the nature and
._ amount of such botterment assessment.
And such list is certified to you for the pur-
poso of committing the same to the Tax Collector, as
,provided by law.
