HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-02-08 Board of Public Works Minutes 1 February 8, 1965 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:45 P.M. in the Auditorium of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn i Street. Present were Chairman Kenney, Secretary Cochrane and Superintendent Welch. Hearing was held regarding the proposed extension of the Sanitary Sewer in the following locations: - 1. SUMMER AVENUE - Walnut Street, Hopkins Street, Main Street to #34 Hopkins Street 2. HOPKINS STREET - Walnut Street to near #52 3. HOP N�'i S—STREET - #52 to Main Street 4. HOPKINS STREET - Main Street to Wakefield Line 5. MAIN STREET - West Side and Easement to Hopkins Street 6. N 1NT E'E - East Side - Summer Avenue to Hopkins Street 7. JOF STR - Salem Street to #36 8. Iff-STREET - Cross Street to Shackford Road 9. S 'ORD ROAD - Ash Street - Westerly 10. MIDDLESEX l ' ENUE - Vine Street to High Street 11. N,�- Vine Street to High Street 12. NT RE - Sumer Avenue to Dead End 13. WOODBINE STREET - Summer Avenue to Hancock Street 14. LONG IEW R D - Summit to #44 l5. ELLI AVENUE - Hillcrest Road to Dead End 16. BEACON STREET - Locust Street to #51 Auburn Street 17. S ND R - Hillcrest Road - Westerly Each person in attendance was given a form showing his/her frontage assessment, form on which to vote, illustration of typical sewer connection and application form for house con- nection. A discussion took place. A total of 64 persons at- tended the Hearing with the voting as follows: - In favor - 46, ' Opposed - 5, Non-committal - 1. The Board convened to Room 16, Municipal Building. Mr. Watt Joined the meeting. t Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to hold a meeting on Monday Evening, February 22, 1965, which is a holiday. It was also moved, seconded and voted that the Board would confer with the employees ' group and ex- plain the results of the meeting with the Personnel Board. The Board took up the subject of sewer extension. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted that the Sanitary Sewer be installed in the streets as outlined at the Hearing with the exception of Ellis Avenue - Hillcrest Road to Dead End. Read letter from Roderick M. Hogan, 20 Summer Ave- nue, requesting an abatement on the Sewer Frontage Assessment due to the fact that in 1960 he paid $1,166.41 Sewerage Assess- ment on Willow Street and was under the impression that he would be exempt from any assessment on the aforementioned pro- perty. After consideration of the details and explanation by the Superintendent, Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted that the abatement be denied. Read letter from Richard A. Budka, 3 North Street, requesting an abatement on his sewer house connection due to an unusual circumstance in installation. It was suggested that a percentage abatement in the amount of $89.17 be granted. After consideration' of the details and explanation by the Superintendent, Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Cochrane seconded and it was voted to grant the abatement in the amount of $89.17. i ' The Board discussed the cost of maintenance of skating areas. Facts presented by the Superintendent indicated a cost of $60.00 per day for each area for 19 days. Mr. Watt moved to accept the data as a point of information, it was seconded and voted. The Board signed the Billroll dated February 5 and Payroll for the period January 30 through February 59 1965. Meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Se etary 1 1
