October 17, 1966
Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30
P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt,
Board Members Hodgkins and Kenney and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
Read letter from Gerard G. Golden, Acting Secretary
of the Reading Midget Rockets, requesting permission to use a
portion of Birch Meadow as a practice and game field; also,
the Superintendent' s letter requesting more definite informa-
tion. It was agreed to take the matter under advisement pend-
ing receipt of the requested information.
Read letter from the American Design and Development
Corporation of Whitman regarding a visit by the Board and
Superintendent to view the Destructor in full operation. It
was accepted as a point of information.
Read note from Mr. Welch with reference to tax title
land in Wilmington abutting the Town of Reading wellfield. A
letter will be sent to Mr. Floyd Bender, Chairman, Board of
Selectmen of Wilmington.
The Board adjourned temporarily at 7:55 P.M. to meet
as .the Board of Survey.
The Board reconvened at 8:35 P.M.
The Board conferred with Messrs. Starkey, Clough and
Kelley, Members of the Personnel Board, and discussed at length
the Town' s salary classifications. Personnel problems within
the Department were explored. The Personnel Board agreed to
make a study of the classifications. It was the Superin-
tendent' s
uperin-
tendents opinion that the system could be broader and less
rigid.

Town of Reading, in compliance with the provisions of
General Laws, Chapter 80, as amended by Chapter 63 of the
Acts of 1933, hereby certify that the list herewith contains
the names of persons against whom we have made betterment
assessments, together with the location of the land benefited
by the improvement and the nature and amount of such better-
ment assessment.
WER And such list is certified to you for the purpose
of committing the same to the Tax Collector, as provided by
law.
