Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30
P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Cochrane, Board Membeie Hodgkins
and Kenney and Superintendent Welch.
Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
The Board opened bids at 8:00 P.M. for the General
Contract for Building a Water Pumping Station #13 in 100-Acre
Meadow as follows-
T.F. McCarthy, Inc. , Beverly $17,221.00
R. H. White Construction Co. , Inc. ,Auburn 19,101.00
Connor Construction Co. , Inc. , Burlington 19,900.00
W. Hickey Co. , North Attleboro 22,754.00
Fulton Railing, Inc. , Lawrence 23,000.00
Mike Mack Co. , East Boston 24,800.00
The bids were taken under advisement.
The Board discussed installation of sidewalk and curb-
ing on Oak Street from #58 to Pine Ridge Road. Mr. Kenney moved,
Mr. Hodgkins seconded and it was voted to confirm the vote re-
corded at a previous meeting in favor of installation of side-
walk and slope curbing.
Read letter from James P. Morris, President, Tennyson
Club requesting permission to close off Tennyson Road on Satur-
day, June 18, from 2:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. for the purpose of
holding a neighborhood block party; in case of inclement weather
tJune 25.

Mr. Hodgkins moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was
voted to approve the request.
Read letter from Dean P. Fowler, 131 Summer Avenue,
enclosing applications requesting the installation of curbing
in front of 131, 132, 135-136 and 135 Summer Avenue. It was
moved, seconded and voted that the applications be placed in
the active file for future consideration.
The Board considered the bids for street sweepers
opened on May 23• Mr. Hodgkins moved, Mr. Kenney seconded
- E1in White Wim -
and it was voted that the sweeper a pure aced rom the low
bidder, Charles N. Wood Company, for the net bid price of
$10,732.00.
The Board accepted as a point of information data
showing chemical usage at the Water Treatment Plant.
Read letter from Robert R. Lindgren, 40 Woodland
Street, requesting permission to locate a driveway on a sewer
easement on his property. Mr. Lindgren is anticipating adding
a two-car garage to his home in the near future.
Mr. Kenney moved, Mr. Hodgkins seconded and it was
voted that permission be granted with the stipulation that
the garage not encroach on the Town easement.
Read letter from George L. Castine, 102 Hanscom Ave-
nue, requesting that his vote be recorded as opposed to in-
stallation of a sidewalk on Hartshorn Street. The letter was
accepted and placed on file. 1

The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:30 P.M. to meet
as the Board of Survey.
The Board reconvened at 9:20 P.M.
The Board conferred with William A. Cheney and James
A. Fife of Metcalf & Eddy, Inc. , Consulting Engineers, and dis-
cussed the proposed Contract Agreement on the Incinerator.
Amended copies will be presented to Messrs. Florence and Watt
for review.

ASSURANCE OF COMPLIANCE
WITH THE HOUSING AND HOME FINANCE AGENCY REGULATIONS
UNDER TITLE VI OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964

"Applicant") HEREBY AGREES THAT it will comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
(P,L. 88-352) and all requirements imposed by or pursuant to the Regulations of the Housing and
Home Finance Agency (24 CFR, Subtitle A, Part 1) issued pursuant to that Title, to the end that,
In accordance with Title VI of the Act and the Regulations, no person in the United States shall,
on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or acit(vity for which the
Applicant receives Federal financial assistance from the Housing and Home Finance Agency,
through the Community Facilities Administration, and HEREBY GIVES ASSURANCE THAT it
will immediately take any measures necessary to effectuate this agreement.
If any real property or structure thereon is provided or improved with the aid of Federal
financial assistance extended to the Applicant by the Housing and Home Finance Agency, through
the Community Facilities Administration, this assurance shall obligate the Applicant, or in the -
case of any transfer of such property, any transferee, for the period during which the real
property or structure is used for a purpose for which the Federal financial assistance is extended
or for another purpose involving the provision or similar services or benefits. If any personal
property is so provided, this assurance shall obligate the Applicant for the period during which
it retains ownership or possession of the property. In all other cases, this assurance shall
obligate the Applicant for the period during which the Federal financial assistance is extended to it
by the Housing and Home Finance Agency, throughthe Community Facilities Administration.
THIS ASSURANCE is given in consideration of and for the purpose of obtaining any and all
Federal loans, advances, grants, properties, contracts or other Federal financial assistance
extended after the date hereof to the Applicant by the Housing and Home Finance Agency, through
the Community Facilities Administration, including installment payments after such date on
account of applications for Federal financial assistance which were approved before such date,
The Applicant recognizes and agrees that such Federal financial assistance will be extended in
reliance on the representations and agreements made in this assurance, and that the United
States shall have the right to seek judicial enforcement of this assurance. This assurance is
binding on the Applicant, Its successors, transferees, and assignees, and the person or persons
whose signatures appear below are authorized to sign this assurance on behalf of the Applicant.
