HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-05-23 Board of Public Works Minutes 53 May 23, 1966 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 8:00 P.M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Chairman Cochrane, Secretary Watt, Board Members Hodgkins and Kenney and Superintendent Welch. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. Read note from the Superintendent regarding the use of the lower part of the 100-Acre Pumping Station as a shelter for employees needed to keep the station operating and their a im- n meds to families in the event of enemy attack. The building will be stocked by the Civil Defense. A discussion ensued. Mr. Kenney moved that the building be stocked as a restricted shelter, Mr. Hodgkins seconded and the motion car- ried. Read letter from Mrs. Miriam A. Barclay, Secretary of the Reading Antiquarian Society requesting removal of excess dirt in the vicinity of the Parker Tavern; also, the alignment of some of the larger stones parallel to Sweetser Avenue on the Society' s property. Mr. Watt moved, Mr. Hodgkins seconded and it was SII voted that the work be accomplished as a fill-in job. The Board considered the water restrictions . It was moved, seconded and voted that the restrictions would remain as previously voted except that water may be used in all precincts on Saturdays. I J4 Bids were opened at 8:30 P. M. on One (1) Street Sweeper, as follows : - Charles N. Wood Co. Elgin White Wing $10, 732.00 Casey & Dupuis Wayne 1-980 11,885. 00 Builders [ Equipment & Austin-Western 12, 885.00 Supplies Company The bids were taken under advisement. The Board adjourned temporarily at 8:35 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey. Y The Board reconvened at 8:55 P.M. Read note from the Superintendent in regard to the removal by the owner (Joseph A. LaCreta) of a substantial por- tion of the sidewalk in front of his property at 51 Timberneck Drive. It was moved, seconded and voted that a hearing be held, the sidewalk installed and the costs assessed on the property. The Board will view the area. The Board discussed forms and letters in regard to the HUD resolution. Mr. Kenney moved, Mr. Hodgkins seconded and it was voted that the HUD Resolution be incorporated in the records and that William H. Watt be authorized to sign the certificate of the Recording Officer. It was further moved, seconded and voted to authorize George W. Cochrane, 3d, Chairman to sign Forms CFA-1091. (See Attached) The Board signed the Billroll dated May 20, 1966. Meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
