HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-01-24 Board of Public Works Minutes 11 January 24, 9 1 66 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Cochrane, Board Member Kenney and Superin- tendent Welch met with the Finance Committee in Room 2 and discussed several items of the 1966 Budget, primarily the re- quests for funds to hire consultants for the Incinerator, funds to hire consultants for the Sewer Interceptor from Brook Street to Baker Road, and a few other minor items. The Board convened in Room 16 where Mr. Florence joined the meeting. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. The Board conferred with Mrs. Beverly Salathe and Messrs. Newell Morton and Theodore Nigro of the Eastern Middle- sex Mental Health Association, Inc. regarding their offer of $20,000.00 for the Bear Hill Nike Site. Article for the pur- chase will be inserted by the Association in the Special Town Meeting Warrant of February 7, 1966. The Board of Public Works will visit the area during the week and title will be searched before any recommendation can be advanced on the sale of the land. Read letter from the State Department of Public Works regarding tentative grant contingent upon legislative appropria- tion and local action for highway purposes in Reading under the provisions of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as follows: - N State Town County Haverhill Street $18,600 $9,300 $9,300 Maintenance 1,500 1,$00 1,$00 Attested copy of the Town vote will be forwarded to the Depart- ment as soon as action has been taken by the Town. The Board removed from the table the item of plowing a section of the highway (sidewalk area) within the State Highway limits near the residence of Mrs. William Dillon of 24 Haverhill Street. The Board Members had visited the area as agreed. Mr. Florence moved no further action be taken, Mr. Kenney seconded and the motion carried. Read letter from George M. Livingstone, architect for Ace Art Company, 24 Gould Street, Reading, who is planning J to construct a storage building adjacent to its present facil- ity on Gould Street. Permission is requested to connect a new wall footing drain and new catch basin on the owners property to a new manhole to be built on Gould Street which in turn would be connected to the existing Town 144+9•. s-o Gm Mr. Florence moved, Mr. Kenney seconded and it was voted that the request be approved subject to the applicable Department regulations. Read letter from Alfred J. Rebello, 16 Sunnyside Road, Reading, requesting retirement effective April 1966 pursuant to authorization established by Chapter 32, Section 95 of the 777 General Laws; also Mr. Welch's comments in relation thereto. 1 ,S Mr. Florence moved that the request be approved, Mr. Kenney seconded and the motion carried. Article will be in- serted in the Annual Town Meeting Warrant. The Board signed the Billroll dated January 21, 1966. Meeting adjourned at 10:10 P.M. to meet as the Board of Survey.
