HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-12-29 Board of Public Works Minutes December 29, 1958 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was opened at 7 ;30 P. M. Chairman Donahue, Secretary Lanni, Mr. Florence and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Read report of Superintendent relative to a conference he and Mr. Donahue had ons December 24, 1958 with Mr. Nilan of the American Mutual Insurance Co, about burning rubbish at the Town Dump. Mr. Nilan agreed to inform Department when special events are to be held and it was agreed to eliminate rubbish burning at such times. Received letter from three abutters in "Woodland Acres" requesting Board not to release any part of the developers bond ' until roads are fully completed. Superintendent reported developers had not requested any release on bond and if they did he would netrecommend it. It was moved, seconded and voted to write to abutters stating facts Of Superintendent' s report. Read report of Superintendent on Brox Bros, claim for gravel borrow on Summer Avenue Chap. 718 project. It was moved, seconded and voted to postpone action until full board convmBs. Received letter from George Kenty, lot 8, Reading Terrace requesting permission to connect a cellar drain to the catch basin in Reading Terrace near Putnam Road. ' It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the request subject to the usual provisions and further subject to such other provisions as the Superintendent may deem advisable. Received letter from Weston and Sampson which reviews well tests in Revay Meadow and recommends installation of a gravel walled well at 1958 location No. 22. It was moved, seconded and voted to postpone action until a full Board convenes. Superintendent submitted a financial statement covering expenditures to date, expenditures committed and projected expenditures for the $ 215,000 Water Development Bond Issue. It was moved, seconded and voted to write Weston & Sampson ' for recommendations on spending available balances. Signed following commitment sheets to be submitted to Assessors: 1958 Sewer Frontage Assessments 1958 Sewer Rouse Connection Assessments Baker Rd . Street Betterment It " Dividence Rd. Water Main Frontage Assessments Received letter from Selectmen: requesting that Annual Report be condensed and simplified' by eliminating unnecessary statistics and technical language. Chairman Donahue reported that he had a conversation with Mr. Watts and that Mr. Watts promised completed plans and specifications f or the Garage extension by mid-January. Chairman Donahue reported relative to requests he has received for work on skating areas and suggested an explanatory letter be published in the Chronicle stating the responsibility of the Board of Public Works on skating areas.
