HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-11-17 Board of Public Works Minutes November 17, 1958 The meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Chairman Donahue, Secretary Zanni, Messrs. Florence, Harrison and Kilgore and Superintendent Welch present. Records of previous meeting read and approved . Read note from Superintendent that Finance Committee has approved all requested transfers to be introduced at Special Town Meeting of Dec- ember 8, 1958. Read note from Superintendent stating Mineral Street Bridge needs 84,500. in repairs and that it might be better to request appropriate in 1959 for design and estimate of new bridge and keep close watch on bridge in meantime. It was moved, seconded and voted to forego repairs now and ask for appropriation in 1959 for design and estimate for new bridge. Read note from Superintendent relative to Gunite repairs at Filter Plant. Work proposed for 1958 has been completed as far as funds will permit. Hearing at 8:00 P. M . on proposed sewer extension is Wescroft Road from County Road one house lot easterly. No abuttors attended. It was moved, seconded and voted to extend the sewer by extending the proposed 1958 sewer construction project in Wescroft Road 40 feet westerly. _ Considered note from Superintendent relative to abatement on Octo- ber 1958 water bill of Frank Keenan, lug Eaton Street, Superintendent suggested abatement of $ 5.00. It was moved, seconded and voted to abate the am of 45.00 on the above mentioned bill. Considered note from Superintendent relative to October 1958 water bill of the Reading Supply Co., North Main Street, Superintendent suggests abatement of $12.00. , It was moved, seconded and voted to abate the sum of $612.00 on the above mentioned bill. Considered note from Superintendent relative to talks with Mr. Watts, Architect, relative to progress on plans for Garageā€¢ Extension. Rough layout plans were submitted, checked and returned to Mr. Watts. Discussed problem in general. Considered note from Superintendent relative to October 1958 water bill of Peter Cunningham, 186 Van Nordan Road . Superintendent suggested no abatement. It was moved, seconded and voted not to abate any sum on this bill Received letter from Weston & Sampson requesting approval for ;j or 4 test wells at Test Well No. 25 in Revay Meadow for further exploration. Superintendent reported that the felt the request should be approved but that no further work of this nature should be done un-Lass some unusual conditions arise. It was moved, seconded and voted that Weston & Sampson be author- ized to drive 3 or 4 Test Wells at Test Well No. 25 but that this should be the end of driving test wells in Revay Meadow. Kr, Carl Amon, Town Counsel, delivered to Board a copy of an Article which is to be inserted by Selectmen in Warrant for December 6, 1958 Special Town Meeting. The Article proposes the abandonment of the water easement in Englund. Road and rescinding of the Board of Survey approval for Englund Road. Received petition signed by 19 abuttors requesting extension of the sewer in Prospect Street from Summer Avenue to near Longview Road . This would require an extension of the sewer in Summer Avenue from near West Street to Prospect Street. Voted to place petition on file for future processing. Conferred with Selectmen at 9 :00 P . M. relative to rooms to be occupied by Board of Public Works. It was mutually agreed that the Board of Public Works would occupy Rooms 14, 1$ and 19 and give up use of Rooms 16 and 17.
