HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-09-15 Board of Public Works Minutes September 15, 1958 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Chairman Donahue, Messrs. Zanni, Florence, Harrison and Superin- tendent Welch present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Noel, father of Earle Noel, conferred with Board relative to the reemployment of his son by this Department. It was explained to him that the reemployment of his son was a prerogative of the 'Superintendent. It was voted to request the Superintendent to make a short report each meeting relative to the progress on the Water Development project. Considered report and suggestions of Superintendent relative to 1959 Chap. 90 Constr. & Maint. Voted to request the following program for 1959: PROJECT - CHAP. 90 CONST. STATE COUNTY TOWN TOTAL Lowell St. - Grand to Grove Bit. Conc. Recover 4,000 2, 000 2,000 8,000 West St. - Willow St. Northwesterly Complete Constr. 11.000 5. 500 5. 500 22.000 Totals 15,000 7,500 7,500 30,000 PROJECT - CHAP.90 MAINT. Various 1,500 1,500 1,500 4,500 Voted to abate the sum of $7.05 on the January 1958 water bill of Unitarian Church, for house at 211 Summer Avenue. Considered suggestion of Superintendent that 1958 Sidewalk Con- struction funds be used for the rebuilding of sidewalks in the business area abutting Heading Square and on sidewalks in other areas in the vicinity of public buildings. Voted to approve suggestion providing it meets with the legal approval of the Town Counsel. , Three men conferred with the Board relative to construction of sidewalks on West St, by Realty Construction Company. Superintendent will investigate problem. Read report from Superintendent relative to filling, grading, and loaming requests of a Mr. Amoroso, 88 Sturges Rd. , and a Mr. McDonald of 26 Sturges Rd. In each instance part of the work has been done. Balance taken under consideration pending a conference between the Superintendent and Mr. Guy Teele of the Sturges Trust. Received letter from Board of Selectmen stating they are re- viewing the use of apace in the Town Building by various Departments and that they will confer with the Board in the near future relative to the use of Room 19 by the Public Works Department. ' Received petition from Municipal Light Department requesting pole location on the South Side of Woburn St, approximately 247 feet west of Temple St. Permission granted. Received letter from Mrs. Sutherland, 27 Ash St. , requesting information about new water rates. All members present signed contract for the construction of a brick pumping station over the Gravel Packed Well No. 1 in Revay Meadow, Contractor is Vincent Caputo, Inc. of Winchester. All members present signed contract of the installation of pumping equipment for the Gravel Packed Well in Revay Meadow. Con- tractor is Kimball Jones Co. of Boston. Board adjourned at 9:15 P. M.
