HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-09-08 Board of Public Works Minutes September 8, 1958 Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P. M. Chairman Donahue, Messrs. Lanni, Florence, Harrison, Supt. Welch present. Records of previous meeting read and approved as amended. Signed Order of Taking for Sewer purposes running through lands of E. Roy and Agnes E. McGrath, 63 Whittier Road, Reading, Mass. , and lands of George M. and Verses. Pearl Sanford, Jr., 56 Tennyson Road, Reading, Mass. This is a culmination of proceedings which have been under way for a period of time. Received petition from a large number of citizens, requesting that the ditch in the rear of houses on the easterly side of Temple Street be Piped in. Place in file for future processing in Storm Drain Program. Voted to authorize Superintendent to sign plan showing proposed subdivision of land off Vine Street, owned by Eleaser Squibb. The plan proposes splitting one lot into two lots both of which are legal lots and do not require Board of Survey approval. Considered letter from Weston & Sampson listing bidders on Revay Meadow Pumping Station and the pumping Ste. Equipment. Letters states both low bidders are qualified and that both bids meet specifications. Voted to award the contract for pumping station to Vincent R. Caputa of Winchester, the low bidder, based on his bid price of $ 11,800. Voted to award the contract for pumping Station equipment to Kim- ball Jones Co. of Boston, the low bidder, based on their bid of $12,970. Received letter from Mr. & Mrs. W. S. Luther, 164 Grove Street, requesting decision on the purchase of pant of her property for Revay Meadow Water Supply purposes. Voted purchase 5.59± acres of 1 and from Mr. & Mrs. Luther for the sum of $2,000.00. This is the culmination of a series of conferences between both parties, , Received letter from Selectmen relative to the proposed use of a part of the old Mill St. Pumping Station by the, so called, 'Orientals", a group of "hot rod" enthusiasts. Voted to write Selectmen that this Board has no objection to the proposal with the provision that this Dept, will not make repairs to the building now nor provide any maintenance in the future . _ Superintendent reported on his conversation with Selectmen Sussmann relative to the use of Roan 19, by Board of Public Works, so that they will have more space, - Discussed use of old High School for hearings. Supt. will continue negotiations. Considered list of streets submitted by Superintendent on which it is feasible to place a bituminous concrete cover. , Voted to place bituminous concrete cover on Chute Street, from High Street to Woburn Street and on Salem Street from Lowell Street to Main Street. Funds are available in the Highway Budget, Received petition for sewer extension in Salem Street from Pearl Street and Wilson Street. Placed on file to be processed in Sewer Constr. Program. Received letter from the Old South Methodist Church requesting per- mission to close off Salem Street from Lowell Street to Main Street on Saturday, October 18, 1958 between 9 :00 A. M. & 4:00 P. M. for the purpose of holding a paper drive. Voted to approve the above described request, ' Mr. Amoroso, 88 Sturges Road and Mr. MacDonald, 26 Sturges Road, conferred with Board relative to filling, loaming and seeding ,lands abhtting their properties. Filling in for drain easement Northerly of property of Mr. MacDonald and for area in street layout at Northeast corner of Amoroso property. Superintendent to review matter and make report to Board. Voted to hold a special meeting of the Board on Wednesday Evening, September 10, 1958 at 7:30 P. M. to discuss water development program to date. Mr. Putnam is to attend. Board adjourned at 9:45 P. M. Respectfully submitted : cret�� 1 Memorandum Of Vote By The Board Of Public Works. At the regular meeting of the Board of Public Works duly held at the Board' s Room, Room 14, Municipal Building, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts, on Monday, September 8, 1958 at 7:3U o' clock in the even- ing, a quorum of the said Board being present, the following vote was unanimously adopted. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED: That in pursuance and under authority of Chapter 314 of the Acts o=YIU9 and under the provisions of Chapter 118, of the Acts of 1921, that there be and hereby is adopted an Order of Taking of an easement by right of emenent domain for and in behalf of the Town in, over and through the following parcels of land for drainage and sewerage purposes: Land of E. Roy McGrath and Agnes E. McGrath situated Northwesterly of Whittier Road and said easement area is estimated to contain 1,957.89 square feet of land. Land of George M. Sanford Jr. and Verena Pearl Sanford situated Southeasterly of Tennyson Road and easement is estimated to contain 1,710 square feet of land. The above easement area is shown on a Plan of Easement for Drainage and Sewerage Purposes Through Private Property, Reading, Mass. , Board of Public Works, Dated June, 1958 James T. Putnam, Acting, Superintendent, and to which Plan and Order of Taking reference is hereby made for a more particular and complete description of said easement area taken and it is further voted that the Order of Taking be recorded forthwith in the Midd- lesex South District Registry of Deeds and that notice be sent to the owners and mortgages affected thereby as required by law.
