Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7 :30 P . M.
' Present were Chairman Donahue, Messrs. Florence, Harrison, Kilgore
and Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved..
Moved, seconded and voted to approve and sign New England Telephone
& Telegraph Co. underground conduit location petition on West Street, Sou-
therly side, from South Street to the New Service Road at the former Lewis
Farm, a public hearing having been held on this petition on May 19, 1958.
Approved petition for jointly owned New England Telephone and Tele-
graph Co.-Reading Municipal Light Department poles as follows:
South Street-Easterly Side-between Nos.82 and 86 South Street-Relocate Pole
63/11A fourteen (14) feet Southerly.
Walnut Street-Southerly of South Street between Nos. 239 and 241 Walnut
Street-Relocate Pole 96-38 fourteen (14) feet Northerly
At request of Board of Selectmen, agreed to hold a ,joint meeting of
the. Boards of Public Works and Selectmen on Tuesday evening, June 3, 1958
to view two proposed public improvements. By mutual agreement, this date
was later changed to Monday evening, June 2, 1958 at 7 :00 P. M.
Received report from Superintendent that the Waterways Division of
the State Department of Public Works have reported unofficially that funds
are available from the State for Channel Improvements and Culvert Construct
tion on the Aberjona River Project, when Town funds are approprlated.Report
noted, and it was agreed by the Board to so inform the Finance Committee
at the joint meeting to be held May 28, 1958.
Received notification from Superintendent that a joint meeting of
the Board of Public Works and Finance Committee had been arranged, to be
held Wednesday evening, May 28, 1958 at 8:00 P. M . in Room 19, Municipal
Building. °
Public Hearing held at 8;00 P. M. in Room 14 regarding the exten-
sion of the common sewer in Summer Avenue, from Northerly of Mineral Street
to No. 113 Summer Avenue. The following abutting property owners were pre
sent, who, when polled as to their wishes regarding the proposed sewer ex-
tension, expressed their opinions as noted:

As this Sewer Extension is deemed an emergency extension, due to
overflowing cesspools, it was moved, seconded and voted to install this
sewer extension with Sewer Division personnel at an early date.
Received report from Superintendent of permanent paving of' sewer
trenches by Johnson Bros ., sewer contractors, to the effect that High Street
sewer trench had been excavated and graveled, that Johnson Bros, had agreed
to pave High Street sewer trench prior to opening Lowell Street sewer trench.

Moved, seconded and voted to permit Morel Brothers, developers of
Westsyde Oaks, to post cash bonds, with the Melrose Co-operative Bank ad
Stmakeholder, to insure construction of the remainder of Gleason (Private)
Road and Alden (Private) Road, subject to approval of legal forms by Town
Counsel Carl H. Amon, Jr.
Discussed approval of Randall (Private) Road, Douglas Burhoe, Develo-
per. Postponed final action until Monday, June 2, 1958, pending receipt of
opinion of Town Counsel on certain phases of zoning requirements relating
thereto.
Discussed request from Roderick Hogan, 12 Summer Avenue, for sewer
extension in Summer Avenue. Superintendent instructed to negotiate further
with Mr. Hogan, and to report back to the Board.
