Vinson, President Dear Mr. Vinson: The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading are in receipt of a letter from the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Reading dated January 23, 1958 to which is attached a petition signed by a number of property owners on Arcadia Avenue, Shelby Road, Munroe Avenue, Edgemont Avenue, and Stuart Road requesting the Town of Reading to take such action as is deemed neces- sary to correct the collected water condition on the lots of land at the corner of Arcadia Avenue and Shelby Road. This condition was originally brought to your attention by me in the Fall of 1957, at the time of a joint personnel inspection of Glen Meadows development, at which time you orally agreed to remedy the existing danger- ous condition. On January 22, 1958 you informed me, in my office, that your firm had received a report from The Thompson & Lichtner Co., Inc., regarding the road- way embanlonent slippage adjacent to Lots S4 and 55 Arcadia Avenue. A copy of this report, dated December 10, 1957 was given to me by you on Thursday, January 23, 1958. At a Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works held Thursday evening, January 23, 1958 it was moved, seconded and voted by the Board to accept the recommendations contained in the report of The Thompson & Lichtner Co. , Inc., relative to the method to be used by your firm in stabilizing the roadway em- bankment to prevent further slippage, provid Ad, that this fill and surcharge is over the entire inundated area on Lots 54 and 55 Arcadia Avenue as exist- ing on January 3U, 1958. It is understood that any future settlement is your responsibility, and that the surcharge will not be removed without the written permission of the Board of Public Works. The Board will not consider the release of any bonds until full and sat- isfactory completion of the work as recommended by The Thompson & Lichtner Co. , Inc. , including fill and three foot surcharge of the entire inundated are on Lots 54 and 55 Ardadia Avenue as existing on January 30, 1958. You are directed to start work immediately, to remedy a condition hazar- dous and dangerous to the neighborhood and particularly the lives of childred residing within your development.
