- Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P. Ill.
Present were Chairman Donahue, Messrs. Hopkins, Zanni, Kilgore
and Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Received report from Superintendent regarding request .from
Chairman George Milner of the Finance Committee Board of Public Works
Sub-Committee that the Public Works Budget for 1958 be submitted to him
by Thursday, January 9, 1958, if possible. Report noted, and request
agreed to.
Received letter from Capital Expenditures Planning Committee re-
questing any information that may be available regarding Board of Public
Works contemplated Capital Expenditures over the period of the next few
years for inclusion in the new report of the Capital Expenditures Plann-
Ining Co=mmittee. This letter discussed in detail, and action on same de-
ferred pending a review of same and certain recommendations thereon by
the Superintendent to the Board.
Received Report on Water Supply to the Toon of Reading, PZassa-
chusetts dated January 6, 1958 from Weston & Sampson, Con#ulting Engin-
eers, 14 Beacon Street , Boston, containing the results of their recent --
water adequacy study for the Town, and recommendations for development
of an additional cater supply. With the Report was a letter from Weston
& Sampson stating that the section on Finances was not included in the
report, but would be submitted at an early date. Copies of the Report
were given to each Board member, and action on the Report was postponed
until the Board meeting of January 13, 1957.
Reviewed Annual Report of Board of Public Works to the Citizens
of Reading. No action taken.
Superintendent reported on retaining :call construction problem on
West Street Chapter 90 Construction contract. It will be necessary to
construct approximately 80 cubic yards of variable height retaining mall
at No. 367 West Street, estimated by the State Department of Public Works
at $40.00 per cubic yard. Moved, seconded and voted to authorize retain-
ing wall construction by Dingley Contracting Col
