' Present were Chairman Johnson, Messrs, Hopkins, Donahue, Kilgore and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Signed vouchers and payroll for payment. Verbal and written report made by Superintendent regarding pro- gress of the water adequacy 'study, present condition of well field, etc. Two wells, Nos. 12 and 13, driven during the past week by D. L. Maher Co. , show promise of developing into" good wells. Discussed recent mechanical breakdown at Pumping Station No. 1, and' s proposed added classification for a pumping station attendant. Received report from Superintendent regarding Asiatic Flu inocu- lations for Public Works employees. Moved, seconded and voted to pay for Asiatic Flu inoculations on a voluntary basis of all Public Works i employees if the Town Counsel rules funds can be expended for this pur- pose. Opened bids at 8:30 P. M. for resurfacing with Bituminous Concrete Type I-1 of Washington Street, from Main Street to Village Street. ' Superintendent reported on negotiations with Johnson Brothers, Sewer Contractors, regarding proposed contract extension. Johnson Bro- thers do not wish to have sewer ccntract extended, because of the short length of proposed sewer extensions. Johnson Brothers also quoted $7.75 per ton for temporary cold-patching of sewer trenches. Moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to proceed ' with additional sewer extensionswith Departmental personnel; to hire private equipment as required to expedite the work of extending the common sewers; and to inform Johnson Brothers that patching of trenches must be accomplished by the contractors in accordance with the terms of the sewer contract, at regular prices. Received letter from Williairr T. Curley, Coal & 011 Co. , Wakefield, Mass., quoting a price of 015.70 per ton on salt in 100 lb, bags F.O.B. B. & M. Reading. Superintendent instructed to investigate salt prices quoted by Mr. Curley. Received t*o letters from Mrs. Birdella A. Wade, 24 Tamarack Road, Reading; one letter complaining of unfinished sidewalks due to Tamarack Road Betterment Construction; the other letter suggesting that water restrictions be relaxed to permit home-owners to water trees and ' shrubs prior to the advent of frost and freezing weather. Both letters noted, and Superintendent instructed to acknowledge both letters and advise Mrs. Wade of existing circumstances regarding the subject matter of her letters. - Discussed New England Road Builders. Association annual banquet to be veld at the Hotel. Statler on Monday evening, December 2, 1957. Moved, seconded and voted to omit Board meeting on December 2, 1957. Received recommended list of articles from Superintendent for Special Town Meeting to be held Monday, November 25, 1957, which inclu- ded several transfers of. funds.within existing appropriations and an article on elimination of dead and streets in housing developments. Articles as recommended tentatively approved, subject to review by ' Chairman Johnson. Reviewed plans and specifications for proposed reconstruction of 3 Summer Avenue, from Main Street to Woburn Street, with funds obtained from Chapter 718, Acts of 1957. Moved, seconded and voted that due to lateness of work season, that reconstruction of Sumner Avenue be postponed until the Spring of 1958, and that said proposed reconstruction be brought before the Board at the first regular Board meeting held in March, 1958. On recommendation of the Superintendent, it was moved, seconded, and voted to purchase from E. J. Bleiler Equipment Co. of Needham, Mass., a new Nelson Model S-11 Over Cab Rubber Tired Snow Loader, as bid Septem- ber 9, 1957, as follows: Snow Loader, Nelson Model 5-11 as bid------------------ X13,415.00 Less Trade Allowance-1944 Barber-Greene Snow Loader---- 2 015.00 Delivered price---- ;p11,400.00 Plus all-steel cab as bid September 9, 1957----------- 707.00 Plus not water heater and defroster-------------------- 95.00 TOTAL cost of equipment to Town----------- 57r,M= Approved request for an underground duct extension from the Read- ing Municipal Light Department at the corner of Ash St. and Main St. for the purpose of furnishing electric power for a service club sign and Christmas illuminations. Received letter from League of Women Voters, Wakefield, Mass. Nancy Loomis, Local Affairs Chairman, inviting Board to attend a public meeting on "Refuse Disposal by Incineration" at the Walton School, David- son Road, Wakefield at 8:00 P. M. Wednesday November 20, 1957 . Letter noted and Board members will inform Superintendent individually if they wisn to attend, so that notification can be given the League of Women Voters of Wakefield.
