Re: Public Utility and Service requirements for
Trancoa Chemical Corporation building,
Ash Street, Reading, Mass.
Gentlemen:
Thank you for your letter of August 15, 1957. In order to clarify the
Town water requirements for our new building, we wish to advise that a
total maximum amount of fifty (5U) gallons per minute will be used by
us. Of this amount, we already have twenty-five (25) gallons per minute
from one well and we hope to get the additional twenty-five ( 25) gallons
from another well.
Under these conditions, the only Town water we would require would be for
drinking purposes. The reason we mention the maximum amount of fifty (50)
gallons per minute is if something should happen to our wells. Since these
are artesian wells, however, this possibility is remote.
2
We trust the above information will prove helpful. We are requesting '
confirmation in writing to the Board of Public Works, Town of Reading,
of the Metropolitan District Commission approval of our sanitary and
process waste disposal.
Sincerely,
TRANSITRON ELECTRONIC CORPORATION

Attention: Dr. M. John Rice, Jr.
Gentlemen:
Your letter of July 22, 1957 states that your new plant in Reading,
Massachusetts plans to recover its process acid and will not fluth it down
the drains. You also state that you will neutralize the acid in the event
the recovery equipment is not operable at the time production starts, and
that only traces of all the mineral and some organic acidsmight be washed
into the drains from your laboratory.
The above would meet the requirements of the Rules and Regulations
established by the Metropolitan District Commission (copy enclosed) .
1
Your attention is invited to the fact that the local municipality
' has full control of its own sewerage system subject to the above rules
and regulations of the lietropolitan District Commission, and can make such
requirements as it deems necessary for the protection of its own sewers
which receive your wastes before they enter the Metropolitan Trunk lines.
You are requested to notify this office when production begins at
your new plant in Reading so that samples of your waste may be checked
for PH.
Very truly yours,

Received report from Superintendent regarding current ground water
conditions at Hundred Acre Well Field, which report hereby becomes part
of these minutes:
NO. 7
WATER SUPPLY CONDITIONS-HUNDRED ACRES
On Thursday, August 22, 1957 it became necessary to cease pumping
from the gravel-walled wells at Pumping Stations No. 2 and No. 3, as
ground water elevations had dropped to a point below the interior screens
at each well. No. 1 Test Well measured 2U feet 7 inches. It was also
necessary to shut off Wells E-111 and E-110, as ground water ,elevation
had dropped below the perforations in the well pipes. By so doing, the
vacuum has been lowered, and the cycle of operation of the vacuum pumps
increased from one minute to 421 minutes, which is good.
The gravel-walled well ori Suction Lire B is holding a good eleva-
tion, in fact, with reduced pumping engendered by water usage restriction,
f
has shown a slight recovery. All water is now being processed through
the Deferrization Plant, and a marked improvement in quality of the
final effluent is noted. ,
Rainfall on Sunday, August 25, amounted to .144 inches. Test well
No. "1 =on Monday August 26 measured 2U feet 3 inches, a recovery of 4
inches since August 22 due to decreased draft.
