Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7 :30 P. M.
Present were Chairman Johnson, Messrs, Hopkins, Donahue, Kilgore
and Superintendent Putnam. _
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Signed vouchers and payroll for payment, .
Signed following committments for sewer house connection charges:
George 0. Poehler, 42 Bond Street Plat 62 Lot 27 $p178.84
Edward A. Brown, 28 Oak Street Plat 53C Lot 56 $218.89
Moved, seconded and voted to allocate the sum of Fifty ($50.00)
Dollars for purchase of prizes to be awarded at the July 4th Field Day,
as requested by the Recreation Committee Director, John Pacino.
Received letter from James E. Calvin, advising Board of problem on
retaining wall on Woburn Street engandered by razing of Security Hall, and
' requesting Board to assist in correcting existing hazardous condition.
Moved, seconded and voted to refer subject matter of letter to the Chair-
man and Superintendent for such action as is deemed advisable.
Opened bids on Water Meters at 8:00 P. M. in Room 14,

Moved, seconded and voted to award bids on proportionate basis to each
bidder of cement lined wrought iron pipe.
Public Hearing held at 8 :30 P. M. regarding construction of a bitum-
inous concrete sidewalk on Forest Street, Southerly side only, from Main
Street to Grove Street. The following abutting property owners were pre-
sent, who, when polled by Secretary Donahue, expressed their opinions on
the proposed sidewalk construction as noted:

road oils, tars and asphalts from H. H. McGuire Co., Utiiity 011 Co. , and
Barrett Division, and tar patch material from Warren Brothers Road Co.,
Barrett Division and H. H. McGuire Co. in quantities at his discretion.

Examined Registry of Deeds Plan for approval, being a subdivision
of land on Pinevale Avenue owned by Arthur C. Knapp. Plan disapproved sa
not in compliance with poning law because of insufficient frontage on two
(2) lots. -
Received letter of Dommandation from Gordon N. Smith, 48 Lafayette
Road, regarding work recently accomplished by the Water Division. Letter
noted.
Received letter .from Brandoch L. Lovely, Minister, The Unitarian
Church, protesting the water usage restriction regulation. Letter noted.
Signed agreement with State Department of Public Works for instal-
lation of an 8" water main on West Street at its intersection with South
Street by-pass.
The twenty-three bids for sewer construction opened Wednesday, June
27, 1957 were reviewed by the Board. . The three low bidders were as follows:

Moved, seconded and voted to award sewer construction bid to the low bidder,
Johnson Bros. , Auburn, Mass. on Alternate II bid, provided proper bonds can
be posted and that asbestos cement pipe and fittings of domestic manufacture
as produced by Johns-Manville Co. under tne . trade name of "Transits" is
used in sewer construction.
Moved, seconded and voted to purchase a new 1957 Model K8-D6u0 Dodge
truck, complete with Perfection Body Model 3540 Heavy Duty 8 Gauge Steel
with I beam understructure and Perfection Model 820 Hoist 12 ton capacity
as specified in bid dated June 17, 1957 by the low bidder, Newhouse Motor
Sales of Reading, for the bid price of 44416.5u plus fish plating at $76.00
' for a total of $4495.30, from Newhouse Motor Sales of Reading.

Moved, seconded and voted to purchase from Morrissey Bros. Tractor
Co. of Burlington, Mass. a Pitman Model 60 hydraulic truck crane and power
winch for the bid price of $5635.00 less 2%.
Moved, seconded and voted to authorize Superintendent to request
bids on a 3a ton, truck chassis and cab only with a 192" wheel base, .on
which the new hydraulic truck crane .will be mounted.
Moved, seconded and voted to purchase twb (2) Oliver OC3-31 craw-
ler-type sidewalk tractors, complete with cabs, bull-dozer blades, snow-
plow blades and hydraulic hoists, from H. F. Davis Tractor Corp. for the
net bid price for both of $7690.00 less 5p.
Received report from Superintendent to the effect that necessary
legal requirements had been complied with, and that construction of Jacob
Way was started on Saturday, June 29, 1957. Report noted.
Moved, seconded and voted to authorize Superintendent to release ,
performance bonds posted by Hillcrest Realty Inc., for construction of.
William (Private) Road and Kiersn (Private). Road at his d3scretlon.
Moved, seconded and voted to authorize following abatements on
water bills as requested by property owners;

Received letter from Fire Chief Hugh L. Eames protesting similarity
of name "Tennyson Terrace" for new proposed street with Tennyson Road, a
public Town Way. Letter noted, and Superintendent Instructed to contact
the developer of "Tennyson Terrace" and suggest that a new disimilar name
be chosen for the proposed road.
Moved, seconded and voted to purchase a new 1957 model K & E Eng-

ineers Transit Nlodel No. 5U85C from B. L. Makespeace, Ind. , for $802.00
less a trade in price of 675.00 on the old Buff & Berger Transit, making
a net cost of $727 .UG.
Received letter signed by Paul F. Howard of Whitman & Howard, Inc.,
Engineers discussing reported failure of Auburn Street elevated tank to
fill to the overflow pipe, and recomiending that, when conditions permit,
the Auburn Street standpipe be overflowed and observations be made on the
height of water in the elevated tank, with representatives of Whitman &
Howard and Town personnel present, to ascertain if possible a solution of
the reported condition. Letter noted, and Board agreed to accept Mr.
Howards' offer.
