Donahue, Zanni, jfopkins,, Kilgore and Superintendent Putnam, Minutes of previous meeting read and approved . Signed vouchers and payroll for payment, Public Hearing held at 8:00 P . M. in Room 19 regarding an ease- ment for a storm drain on private property from Winslow. Road Southerly and Easterly. Kaplan & Co, reporting that the cement con- trete sidewalk abutting the F. W. Woolworth Store on Main Street is in bad repair, and offering to pay for one-half the cost of a new granolithic sidewalk in this location. Action withheld for one week, pending further information and discussion. ' On recommendation of Superintendent, moved, seconded and voted to award Lowell Street Culvert construction contract to the low bidder, Mirra & Company, Inc., 330 Washington Street, Woburn for the bid price of $10,542.50, subject to the posting of a performance bond. Superintendent instructed to contract the State Department of Public Works relative to possible closing of Lowell Street for culvert construction. On recommendation of Superintendent it was moved, seconded and voted to award Roads and Drains construction contract to Lawrence Sand & Stone Co. , of Winter Street, North Reading, for the bid price of $54,385.15, subject to posting of a performance bond. ReceiVed report from Superintendent of engineering quotations on Summer Avenue Chapter 718 construction, Moved, seconded and voted to re- N tain Dana F. Perkins & Sons to accomplish location survey, .location plan and cross sections, and to expedite the work with all dispatch. Received memorandum from Superintendent regarding conference with Stata Department of Public Health officials on May 15, 1957 at which the Reading Town Dump was discussed. Memorandum noted. Previewed hearings and bid openings scheduled for meeting of May 27, 1957 . Received report from Superintendent regarding a road side drain required for West Street Chapter 90 construction. Moved, seconded and voted to request State Department of Public Works to include said drain in West Street contract specifications. Superintendent instructed to proceed with Forest Street sidewalk survey, South side, Main Street to Grove Street. Superintendent instructed to advertize for Civil Engineer, Engineer ing Division, to replace Civil Engineer Anthony Pagano, who has resigned . Moved, seconded and voted to employ Anthony Pagano, C, E, ,' on con- struction design with consulting engineering funds. Received letter from Personnel Board approving following classifi- cations: William MacBrien, Transitman, increased to $1.85 per hour. Everett E. Peterson, Junior Draftsman, at $1.85 per hour. ' Received letter from Reading Recreation Committee requesting use of Parks and Playgrounds for the 1957 Supervised Play season, Voted to hold interview with delegation from Recreation Committee at 7 :45 P. M . May 27, 1957. Received petition from citizens on Northerly extremity of County , Road requesting more adequate water supply facilities. Petition accepted, Jr- and and filed for future 14" water main replacement. Signed Order for Location of Underground Cable on Ash Street for Reading Municipal Light Department. Signed Order of Taking for Sewer Easement on private property- Vale Road to Vine Street. Received petition for extension of sanitary sewer on Lee Street. Petition accepted, and filed for processing in usual manner. Received petition for sewer and drain easement crossings from Trancoa Company on Ash Street. Moved, seconded and voted to permit drain > easement bridge crossing, sewer easement road crossing, but that no struc- ture should be placed in, on or over the sewer easement. Moved, seconded and voted to install main trunk sanitary sewer on ' John Carvdr Road, from Birch Meadow Drive to Hartshorn Street. Board adjourned 11:45 P. M . Re. sidewalk 650-656 Main St. The sidewalk in front of F. W. Woolworth store is in a deplorable condition and needs to be replaced for a length of about 64 feet which includes 4 feet in front of Santoro; store/ I am willing to pay one half the cost of this work and think that this should be done as the present condition of the sidewalk constitutes a accident hazard.
