HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-05-10 Board of Public Works Minutes May 10, 1957 A special meeting of the Board was held at 12 noon. ' Present were Chairman Johnson, Messrs. Hopkins, Zanni, Kilgore and Superintendent Putnam. The meeting was called by Chairman Johnson to discuss the strain on the water collection and distribution system engendered by the record- breaking May drought and high temperatures, and the danger of disastrous forest fires. After a careful review of the pumping statistics and water storage facilities, it was moved, seconded and voted to distribute, as soon as possible, to all water consumers in Reading, the following notice: WARNING (TOWN SEAL) PLEASE CONSERVE WATER Due to the severe drought and the serious fire hazard that exists, it is necessary for the Board of Public Works to take steps to have citizens conserve water. It is requested that use of water for washing automobiles and trucks, and for watering of lawns be minimized, especially between the hours of 3 :00 ' P . M. and 10:00 P. M . BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS Town of Reading It was also moved, seconded and voted to have printed and hold ready for possible distribution in the future the following notice: O R D E R WATER MUST BE CONSERVED It is hereby ordered effective immediately that water shall not be used for the following purposes: 1. Washing automibiles, trucks and any other equipment of any nature. 2. Watering gardens-including shrubs, bushes, etc. 3. Watering lawns. 4. Filling pools either stationary or movable and whether large or small. 5. Using a hose, with or without sprinklers, as a shower bath.
