' Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P. M.
Present were Chairman Johnson, Messrs, Hopkins, Donahue and Super-
intendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved .
Signed vouchers and payroll for payment. -
Held Public Hearings on Main Sewer Extension at 8:00 P. M. on fol-
lowing streets, in Room 19, Municipal Building:
Lowell Street-High Street to Grand Street.
Grand Street-Lowell Street to No. 50 Grand Street.
Harriman Avenue-Grand Street to Deering Street.
Deering Street-Lowell Street to near Middlesex Avenue.
The following persons were present at the Public Hearings, .all
Hearings being held concurrently, who expressed their opinions on both

Moved, seconded and voted to assess John C. Howard And Marie A. ,
Howard, 104 Grand Street, for a 60 foot frontage on Grand Street, and
exempt the 32 foot frontage on Lowell Street.
Received report from Superintendent delineating a tentative long-
range five year Chapter 90 Construction program. Report noted, and taken
under advisement for future consideration.
Considered 1957 Storm Drain Construction program. Moved, seconded
and voted to approve the following storm drains for 1957 construction, as
recommended by Superintendent:
Haverhill Street #688 Haverhill St. Northerly to Culvert- $5,000.00
Van Norden Road #109 Van Norden R. Northerly to Culvert 3,000.00
Winslow Road Private Property-Easement Drains 5;800.00

Superintendent requested to review estimate on Bear Hill Road drain,
and to. resubmit at next Board Meeting.
Discussed additional streets for sanitary sewer extension in 1957.
Moved, seconded and voted to hold Public Hearings on following loca-
tions on April 29, 1957:

Moved, seconded and voted to withhold decision on West Street sewer,
from Summer Avenue North-Westerly, pending an engineering study, also John
Carver Road, from Birch Meadow Drive to Hartshorn Street.
Examined, and approved for Superintendents signature, the following
Registry of Deeds Plans under the Subdivision Control Law:

voted to confirm previous vote of requiring developer to bond all of Ash
Hill Road, part of Maple Ridge Road, all of Balsam Road, and the Ash Hill
Road Drain Easement for the total sum of 069,000.00.
Granted Superintendent permission to prepare specifications for and
start bidding new equipment authorized at Town Meeting, first bids to be
' opened Monday, May,1'3

Reviewed three applications for position of Administrative Assistan�
to the Superintendent. Moved, seconded and voted to authoripe Superin-
tendent to employ Marcus E. Morton, 198 Woburn Street, Reading, as Admin-
istrative Assistant, and to request, Personnel Board to approve $80.00 per
week as a starting wage.
Received letter from Board of Health advising Board of two locations
where overflowing cesspools are currently creating a serious sewerage dis-
posal problem, namely, Mrs. Edith W. Douns, 67 Vine Street, and Mr. Leonard
W. Taylor, 22 Woodward Avenue. Letter noted.
On recommendation of Superintendent, moved, secc,nded and voted to

petition Personnel Board to )a L John Famolare, 432 Park Street, North
Reading, as a Semi-Skilled Laborer at a starting wage of $1.60 per hour.
Received letter from Transitman William Mac Brien expressing disatisji
faction at his April 1, 1957 salary increase, and requesting personal into
view with the Board. Superintendent instructed to reserve place on Agenda
for meeting of April 22 for the requested interview.
Received letter from Mrs. glizaoeth Palmunen, 191 Pearl Street, pro-

i�ebi* drainage conditions abutting Pearl Street. Superintendent instructed
to write Mrs. Palmunen, advising her of contemplated drainage improvements
soon to be consumated on Timberneck Ditch.
