HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-04-01 Board of Public Works Minutes April 1, 1957 Meeting of the Board opened at 7 :3o P. M. Present were Chairman Johnson, Secretary Donahue, Messrs. Hop- kins, Kilgore and Zanni, Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Signed payroll and vouchers for payment. Chairman Johnson "Proposed that minutes contain appreciation for manner in which Superintendent Putnam prepared data for Town Meeting and assisted Board members in presentation of Articles." Voted to instruct Superintendent Putnam to confer with Town Counsel Carl Amon regarding the proposed water main extension to the Transitron-Trancoa plant off Ash Street. Board discussed water use restrictions relative to Transition- ' Trancoa. Suggestion made that a folder be maintained containing Tran- sitron-Trancoa correspondence, Discussed Superintendent Putnams' "Tentative Five Year Sewer Construction Programa', submitted for Boards' consideration. Moved, seconded and voted to prepare first four items on Pro- gram, namely Lowell Street, High Street to Grand Street; Grand Street, Lowell Street to Middlesex Avenue; Harriman Avenue, entire length; and Deering Street, Lowell Street to near Middlesex Avenue, for public hearings on sewer construction. Moved, seconded and voted to prepare specifications for bidding six Betterment Streets, is Sturges Road, Irving Street, Milton Road, Harvard Street, Tamarack Road and Timberneck Drive. Moved, seconded and voted to have specifications prepared for bidding Lowell Street drain culvert. Moved, seconded and voted to: again instruct Superintendent to have .all general information for sewer, drain, sidewalk and Street . betterment hearings mimeographed and attached to estimate sheets for distribution to .abuttors at public hearings. SO:me Moved, seconded and voted to hold, at a~ hour, all hearings for contiguous streets, to group them for time saving. Moved, seconded and voted to discontinue the posting of "Wage and Salary Schedule" at garage and elsewhere. Moved, seconded and voted that the Superintendent be instructed to establish regular periods during the day during which he shall be available to the general public for consultation. The balance of the day he shall devote to serving the interests of the Town, to wit; plann- ing and supervising the operation of the Department. And that these periods be posted at the front entrance. Moved, seconded and voted that: (A.) All gasoline disbursed be metered. (B) All gasoline be distursed only to Town owned vehicles. (C) A record be kept that is available for inspection. Moved, seconded and voted that no meal tickets be issued to hired 'truck and hired equipment operators at any time. Moved, seconded and voted to install a water meter in every house at same time that water service is connected. Moved, seconded and voted to put out to bid all materials whose annual cost is estimated to be over $2,000.00. Board adjourned at 11:00 P. M. Respectfully submitted: acre a�iy` 3
