Special Meeting of the Board opened at 8:00 P. M.
Present was Chairman Johnson, Messrs. Hopkins, Kilgore and Super-
intendent Putnam.
Discussed budget items preliminary to meeting with Finance Comm-
ittee.
Met with Finance Committee at 8:30 P. M., and discussed the 1957
Board of Public Works proposed budget at some length. New street bet-
terment figure of X69,187.00 was quoted, subject to possible revision
pending final street acceptance hearings.
After departure of Finance Committee, a further discussion of the
budget ensued.
Moved, seconded and voted to indefinitely postpone Article 77 of
Warrant requesting purchase of Two (2) Gasoline Powered Sidewalk Snow
Plow Tractors, complete with all necessary snow plowing equipment.
Moved, seconded and voted to reduce 1957 Highway Department bud-
get amount from 511J,300.00 to 0100,000.00, the reduction to be reflected
in either Salary or Expense Account at the discretion of the Superintendent.
The item for street resurfacing is to be left undisturbed, for future
consideration by the Board.
Moved, seconded and voted to indefinitely post-pone Article 78 of
Warrant requesting an appropriation for an engineering study of water
adequacy and distribution system.
Moved, seconded and voted to present report and request under
Article 2 of Warrant a vote of the Town Meeting authorizing the Board
' of Public Works to contract with the Federal Government for funds to
conduct the water survey described in Article 78.
Moved, seconded and voted to instruct Chairman to write the
Board of Selectmen an official letter stressing the possible serious
effects of the proposal Transitron-Trancoa installation off Ash Street
on the municipal water supply, distribution system, and sewage system.
Board adjourned at 12:10 A. M.
