Regular Meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P. M.
Present were Chairman Johnson, Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue, Zanni
and Superintendent Putnam. -
Minutes of previous meeting readand approved.
Signed payroll and billwwarrant for payment. -
Public Hearing held at 8:00 P. M. regarding the acceptance of
lines and grades of Emerson Street, which runs from Franklin Street to
Dividence (Private) Road. The following persons were present, who, when
polled by Secretary Donahue as to their opinions regarding the proposed

lines and grades of Milton Road, which runs from Howard Street in a
Northerly direction to a dead and. The following persons were present,

Delegation of citizens from Oak Ridge Road, with Mr. Thomas Murphy
as spokesman, appeared before Board to discuss the proposed Sturges Trust
Development as it effected the extension of Oak Ridge Road. Their objec-
tions to the extension of Oak Ridge Road were based on the following fac-
tors, as alledged by them:
1. Dangerously steep grade beyond Southerly terminus of present Oak Ridge
Road.
2. Dangerous intersection because of steep gradient at Oak Ridge Road Ex-
tension and Maple Ridge (Proposed) Road•.
3. Traffic turn-around at Southerly terminus of Oak Ridge Road Would be
much more satisfactory solution of problem, in the final analyses.
Subject matter of allegations taken under advisement by the Board.
Superintendent instructed to contact A. J. Tambone regarding pro-
posed cul-de-sac location at Southerly terminus of Oak Ridge Road.
Received application for position as Land Surveyor in the Engin-
eering Division from Charles H. Moloy, Registered Land Surveyor, 17
Elijah Street, Woburn, Mass. Superintendent instructed to investigate
_.applicant more thoroughly, .and report back to Board, with the thought of
giving the applicant a three months -trial period of employment.
Examined Registry of Deeds Plan for approval-Land between Charles
and Pearl Streets, Reading, owned by Kenneth Shaw at ux-plan approved.
Received letter from Ralph P. Hall, Inc., 25 Montvale Avenue,
Stoneham, Mass., requesting permission to substitute Fairbanks, Morse Water
Softeners with a service capacity of 6 GPM to remove 31 PPM of hardness,
for the Elgin water softeners originally included in their bid on Fluori-
dating equipment. Said substitution will reduce the original quoted price
by 05UU.00, and result in a new proposal figure of $3,442.22.
Moved, seconded and voted to permit substitution as quoted, and to
purchase from Ralph P. Hall, Inc., % Proportioneers % Fluoridation equip-
ment using crystalline Sodium Fluoride as the chemical ingredient.
Discussed and reviewed the following streets on which Public Hear-
ings will be held on Monday, March 4, 1957, namely Harvard Street Better-
ment Acceptance, South Street Relocation, corner relocation North-West Cor-
ner South Street and Main Street. Moved, seconded and voted to present for
acceptance as Public Town Ways at the Annual March 1957 Town Meeting the
following streets;

Mr. John Kay, Chairman, Finance Committee appeared before Board to
request a joint meeting to be held Thursday evening, February 28, 1957 re-
garding the 1957 Budget. Board agreed to meeting.
Board adjourned at 11:59 P. M.
