The regular meeting of the Board opened at 7 :30 P. M.
Present were Chat- man Johnson, Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue, Kil-
gore and Superintendent Putnam,
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Walter Collins, 33 Knollwood Road , Reading, appeared be-
fore Board to discuss the petition for Betterment acceptance of' Knoll-
wood Road previously filed by him. Matter taken under advisement.
Received letter and requests from Recreation Committee signed
by Chairman Robeby Turner. Letter and requests turned over to Super-
intendent for further study and report.
Moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to re-
quest opinion from Town Counsel on use of Momorial Park for football
( tag or tackle) , baseball, basketball, ice hockey, etc. and all
other spectator sports, so-called.
Siged request for transfer of $4500.00 from the Reserve Fund
to liquidate deficit in Snow & Ice Expense Account.
R9ceived report from Superintendent regarding damage at Pump-
ing Station No. 1 due to failure of a power line during ice. storm.
Superintendent instructed to investigate cost of modern phase-

Moved, seconded and voted to write Board off Selectmen and re-
quest that, when Birch Meadow Drive is constructed from Oakland Road
to John Carver Road, it be posted for "No Tnucking"'.
Supt. instructed to write Reading Municipal Light Boa d and
advise them of prssent need for street lighting on Birch Meadow Drive.

Main Street to Oakland Road, and coming need for street lighting on
Birch Meadow Drive, Oakland Road to John Carver Road; Arthur B. Lord
Drive, Forest Street to Birch Meadow Drive; Jacob Way, South Street
to dead and .
Moved, seconded and voted to prepare estimates on the basis of
providing bituminous concrete sidewalks on all Betterment Street construc-
tion.
Examined Registry of Deeds Plan for approval-Plan of Land owned
by Sturges Trust abutting Pine Ridge Road and Sturges Park. _
Examined plans of Birch Meadow Drive Extension, both Board of
Survey and Board of Puolic Works; and Board of Public Works plan of
Susan Drive, on all o f which public Hearings are to be held on Monday,
January 14, 1957.
Voted to abate sewer house connection charge in the amount of ,
024.41 to the Reading Antiquarian Society, a non-profit organization
who are preserving for posterity the Parker Tavern on Washington Street.
Signed Board of Survey plan of Laurel Lane Extension, on pressen-
tation of evidence of cash band for construction of same by developer
George M. McSheehy.
Superintendent instructed to attend hearing to be held by Water-
Ways Division of State Dept , of Public Works.
Board adjourned at 11:10 P . M.
