Donahue; Hopkins, Zanni and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Signed vouchers and payroll for payment week ending May 22, 1956. Signed Partial Release of Conditions set forth in Document #304237 for Realty Construction & Engineering, Inc, and Realty Construction of New England, Inc, for lots and ways as hereinaftev set forth in a hous- ing development known as Glen Meadows off West Street: Plan # 24496-D filed in Middlesex So. Dist. Reg. Deeds, Ld . Ct. Div. Lots 45, 46, 47, 48, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 82 through 87 inclusive, 52 through 55 inclusive, 27 through 30 inclusive, 35 through 38 in- clusive, 1[0 through 43 inclusive, all of Stewart Road, all of Shelby ' Road, Arcadia Avenue from Station 8{0 to Station 16}0, part of Garrett Road, 50 ft, x 50 ft, which forms the extension of straight lines of Shelby Road into Garrett Road up to the front lot line of Lot 31. Received petition signed by fifty (50) residents of Richards Road and, Wakefield Street requesting relief from an existing drainage condition in the rear yard areas of their respective properties. Matter taken under adtisement pending study and report by Superintendent. Opened sealed bids on 200-5/8 inch water meters at 9:45 P. M . Arctic 27.71 290 Opened sealed bids on Power Bucket Sewer Cleaning Rig at 9:30 P. M. The following listed bid was publicly opened and read aloud by Secretary Donahue: BIDDER MAKE BID PRICE J. F. McDermott .Co. Flexible, Inc. x$2,590,00 On recommendation of Superintendent it was moved, seconded and voted to purchase a Flexible, Inc, power bucket sewer cleaning rig from J. F. McDermott Co., 29 Csrdan Avenue, Roslindale, Mass., for the bid price of x$2,590.00. The Board of Public Works then temporarily adjourned to act as $oard ,of Survey. . Reconvened as Board of Public Works. Received letter from Newhouse Motor Sales regarding an omission III in their bid dated May 14, 1956 for a 3/4 ton Dodge Pick-Up Truek, The letter stated that they had neglected to include in their bid the price of the pick-up truck body, and requested that the sum of $98.50 be added to tl}eir original bid of $1,316.25, which would bring the new bid price to 01,414.75. After some discussion it was moved, seconded and voted to deny the request contained in the letter, and to award the bid of the 3/4 Ton Pick- Up Truck to Newhouse Motor Sales, Inc. , 142 Washington Street, Reading, Mass„ for the original bid dated May 14, 1956 of $1,316.25 for a Dodge 3/4 Ton Pick-Up.. Truck. ' Received letter from Addison-Wesley Publishing. Co., Melbourne W. Cummings, President, requesting that an 8" water main be laid in an eas ment over private property from Englund (Private) Road to supply their 279 ' building now under construction with water service. After some dis- cussion, it was moved, seconded and voted as follows: To write a letter to the Board of Selectmen requesting a joint meeting Monday, May 28,1956 of the Boards of Public Works and Selectmen on the Addison-Wesley problem as a whole and the possible widening of South Street in particular; and to secure easement as requested by Addison-Wesley from Englund Road to property of Addison-Wesley for installation of an 8" water main. Super- intendent presented report and plans, including estimates of costs not including land damages, of widening a portion of South Street on a LEO foot layout. Report taken under advisement by Board, pending joint meeting with Board of Selectmen. Received report from Superintendent of appointment of Special ' Sewer Study Committee as authorized by vote of the Town at the Annual March 1956 Town Meeting, which is composed of the following listed persons: CAPITAL EXPENDITURES PLANNING COMMITTEE - John B. Harker FINANCE COMMITTEE - George E. Milner BOARD OF HEALTH - Charles R. Baiyley, M. D. BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS - Coleman J. Donahue BY THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN - Frederick S. Oliver William B. Herrick G. Warren Cochrane Philip P. Welch On recommendation of Superintendent it was moved, seconded and voted to re-employ Everett Peterson, 6 Parkview Road, Reading, Mass. as Junior Draftsman at an hourly rate of $1.30. Mr. Peterson left the employ of the Public Works Department in May, 1952 on a military leave of absence for the U. S. Navy. , Received letter from Cotting & Harrington, Realtors, requesting Partial abatement of service pipe construction bill of $447.80 at Lot 9, Van Norden Road Moved, seconded and voted that, as this was actual cost 280 of water service installation due to excessive rock ledge, which requir- ed extensive drilling and blasting, no abatement would be granted. Received letter from Board of Selectmen complaining of alledged indifference demonstrated by dump caretakers, thereby causing extensive trouble to the Fire Department, and suggesting that the Town Dump be closed when caretakers are off duty. Moved, seconded and voted to write the Selectmen, informing them of conditions at the dump, and including Superintendents report to the Board regarding same. Received letter from Board of Selectmen regarding alledged pour drainage conditions on High Street, and an alledged fire hazard on Jadem (Private) Terrace off High Street caused by failure of the Public Wprks Department to plow snow from same. Moved, seconded and voted to write Board of Selectmen regarding this complaint, and to include in ' letter Superintendents report to the Board re same. Petition received from Reading Municipal Light Department to relo- cate Pole No. 98-71 on West Street, Westerly side, at entrance of Arcadia Avenue, to a point on the Easterly side of West Street. Moved, seconded and voted to grant relocation as requested. Received letter from Stanley 1. Robinson, Manager Reading Soft Ball League, requesting playing dates at Birch Meadow. Moved, seconded and voted to refer request to Superintendent for allocation of playing dates. Received letter from J. M. Doherty, Manager of the Reading Town Baseball Team, requesting playing dates at Washington Street Park.
