' April 23, 1956
The regular meeting of the Board opened at 7.30 P. M.
Present were Chairman Johnson. Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue,
Zanni and Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meetings read and approved as corrected.
Coleman J. Donahue appointed Board of Public Works Repre-
sentative to the Special Sewer Study Committee.
On recommendation of Superintendent Putnam, it was unam-
imously voted to award the Willow Sewer Construction Contract to
A. C. Construction at the bid 9q

Received petitions for Sewer Extensions from Glenmere Circle,
Winslow Road and King Street. Petitions accepted by Board; filed in
' usual manner for future installation.
Received letter signed by several residents of Brook Street,
Wakefield, protesting the 'drainage conditions on Brook Street Wake-
field which is Summer Avenue in Reading. Superintendent instructed
to confer with Superintendent DeFoe, of the Wakefield Public Works
tiepartment; in an attempt to atrive at a solution of the problem and
to report back to the board.
Received letter signed by several residents of Winslow Road,
and Glenmere Circle protesting a storm water drainage condition in
the rear of their property. The petition was dated April 13, 1956.
Subject matter of petition referred to Superintendent for study and
a report back to the Board . ,
' Letter received from Reading High School Athletic Coach, re-
questing baseball dates at Washington Street Ball Park and Birch
Meadow Playground. Superintendent instructed to check dates requested,

and assign same if possible, ,
Received request for use of Washington Street Ball Park and
Birch Meadow Playground by a little league baseball team to be used
for their farm clubs. Superintendent insfiructed to check dates and
assign requested dates if they do not conflict with the High School
dates;
Received petition signed by several residents of Vista Avenue,
petitioning that a 6" water main replace the existing la" main on
Vista Avenue. Petitioners claim they get insufficient water from the
present lo" main. Board instructed Superintendent to contact petition-
ers and inform them that a 6" main would be used to replace the 1k"
main when funds were available.
Examined three Registry ,of Deeds Plans for Superintendentst '
approval as follows:
Sub-division plan of land in Reading, Mass, on Colburn Road owned by
John E. Selfridge.
Ilan of land in Reading, Mass, owned by Merle Farr on West Street.
These plans were approved by the Board and the Superintendent given
permission to sign same for recording. The third plan entitled:
Plan of land in Reading, Mass, surveyed for Wyman-Wesley Realty Trust;
located southerly of South Street in Reading, required certain changes
before the Superintendent could sign same .
Recommendation received from the Superintendent regarding
the 1956 Sewer Construction Program as follows: ',

After some discussion of the recommendations by the Super-
intendent the vote was put and recorded as follows: 2-Yes and 1-non-
committal, 1 member not voting.
Voted to instruct Superintendent to insert article in the
' Reading Chronicle advising public of the fact when the 1956 sewer
program is completed.
Signed order of taking of Drain easement and record of land
court entried on land owned by Realty Construction and Engineering,
other wise known as the Chinamans farm on West Street, Reading.
At request of Superintendent voted to take bids on a new street
sweeper and a business coupe on Monday April 30, 1956.
Board adjourned at 10:20 P. M.
