HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-01-05 Board of Public Works Minutes 171 January 5, 1956 Aspecial meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs Hopkins, Johnson, Zanni, Donahue and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of meeting of December 19, 1955 read and approved. Discussed funds requested for 1956 sewer constructign at some length. Moved, seconded and voted to write Finance Committee notifying them that if the requested funds of X150,000 for 1955 are approved, the Willow Street Sewer $21,000.00 estimates would be deductable from it. Joint meeting held at 8:00 P. M, with Chairman Lawrence Cate, Messrs . Maxwell, Hartshorny ,Gallant, Malone and Harker of the Capitol Expenditures Planning Committee. Discussed capitol expenditures items at some length, with particular emphasis being placed on the $150,000 requested for 1956 sewer construction. . Letter received from Finance Comnittae requesting estimates for construction of Forest Street Elementary School Road including drain and sidewalk, and for Birch Meadow Drive from Oakland Road to John Carver Road. . Moved, seconded and voted to hold Board of Survey and Board of Public Works hearings on layout and acceptance of Forest Street Elemen- tary School. Road on Monday evening, January 23, 1956 and to, insert article in Special Town Meeting to be held January 30, 1956 for its acceptance as a public town way. 172 Received letter from Board of selectmen advising that final date for introducing articles in the special town meeting warrant would be January 13, 1956. 1 .0 The Board officially requests the Superintendent, and it was so moved, seconded and voted, to prepare list of all construction projects to be built in 1956, together with statement as to who will construct. (Town Forces or Contractor) and proposed starting dates. Moved, seconded and voted that a sewer extension be made in High Street, from Lowell Street 3401 feet Southerly to No. 264 High Street, and to hold a public hearing on said extension on Feb. 6, 1956. .Moved, seconded and voted to write Board of health requesting copies of letters sent to citizens regarding overflowing cesspools and/or septic tanks, and to notify the Board of Health that the Board of Public Works is also vitally concerned with sanitation problems. Received letters from Recreation Committee requesting various , inprovements or additions to play equipment and/or facilities in our several parks and playgrounds. . Taken under advisement, pending re- port from Superintendent. Received petition signed by several abutters on Longfellow Road requesting sewer extension. Petition accepted and placed on file for . processing in usual manner. Signed bond interest voucher for Water Dept, interest payment. Received request for interview with Board from Realty Const. & Eng. , Inc, developers of Glen Meadows project off West St. Supt, in strutted to arrange interview for Thursday evening, Jan. 12, 1956 at 8;00 P.
