November 28, 1955
The regular meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P . M.
Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs. Donahue, Johnson, Zanni
and Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved as corrected .
Received annual renewal of contract with Weather Services, Inc.
for the year 1956. Moved, seconded and voted to authorize Superintend-
ent to renew contract for the amount of 0156.60, provided that Super-
intendent contact United States Weather Bureau and investigate any
comparable forecasting service available to municipalities.
Opened bids at 8 :00 P . Ni. on 'bituminous concrete resurfacing of
Minot Street. Following listed bids received :

Moved, seconded and voted to award contract to Warren Brothers Roads
Company, subject to usual requirements of qualification.
Received request from Hillcrest Realty, Inc . to raise grade of
William (Private) Road at its intersection with Franklin Street, because
of existing natural gas transmission main grade. Referred to Superintend-
ent for further study as to proposed grade change. Also instructed Super-
intendent to contact North-East Gas Transmission Co. and, ascertain if
gas main can be lowered at this location, which would eliminate necess-
ity of making a grade change on William (Private) Road.

Received petition signed by several residents of Walnut Street
' Southerly of South Street, with attached photographs, requesting relief
from surface drainage conditions. Referred to Superintendent for fur-
ther investigation and report to Board.
Received letter from Realty Construction & Engineering, Inc.,
owners and developers of the Besse Farm on West Street Confirming a
tentative agreement made between Ervin N. Birchall, Treasurer and
Superintendent Putnam. The said letter is hereby included in the minutes:

Dear Mr. Putnam:
Confirming our conversation of November 23rd, Realty Construction &
Engineering, Inc. , will install an eight inch sewer main in West
Street from the intersection of West, Willow and Summer Streets up
West Street as far as land owned by Realty Construction of New Eng-
land, Inc. abuts both sides. Where we abut one side only, we will
be pleased to cooperate on cost with the Town of Reading. We will
also run the house laterals to the lot line of each proposed lot.
It is our understanding that you will do the required work to re-
finish West Street, also bring your sewer line to a point where we
start at the intersection of West, Willow and Summer Streets._
With reference to the drainage ditch, we will give to the Town of
Reading an easement sixty feet wide as shown on plan we are now' pre-
paring. We also agree to dig this ditch and plan to complete it to
grades agreeable to you and our engineer, Warren M . Mirick. Work on
this ditch to be completed on or about May 1, 1956.
We trust that the above will meet with your approval.

Moved, seconded and voted to approve the Townts part of the conditions
cited in the agreement as outlined in the within letter, and l' ��

Special Town Meeting to be held January 16, 1956 as a special
appropriation.
Chairman Clinch, Messrs. Hartshorn and Burnham of the Planning
Board met with the Board of Public Works to discuss proposed zoning
by-law revisions, as follows;
Industrial Zone - Easterly of Pleasant Street Extension
Business B Zone - Salem Street opposite Libby Avenue
Business A Zone - Main Street Southerly of Pinevale Avenue
Discussed water supply, sewer mains and access roads to, or serving
these areas. Board of Public Works were recorded as having no objec-
tions to these proposed zoning revisions from Public Works standards.
Also discussed possible access roads to the proposed Addison-Wesley
plant off South Street.
Received letter from Town Meeting Member in Precinct drawing
attention of Board to dangerous condition on Summer Avenue near Brook
Street caused by Water from cellar of house being outletted on street
surface." Superintendent instructed to investigate and report back to
Board .
Received report from Superintendent stating that Manger Stanford
of Municipal Light' Dept. had verbally informed him that direct burial
cable on Haverhill Street would be installed in the location originally
granted, in the normal sidewalk area. '

' Examined and discussed the 1956 salary schedule for Public.
Works Employees as submitted by Superintendent. Deferred action on
same until the next meeting of the Board.
