HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-11-25 Board of Public Works Minutes 1_ 33 November 25, 1955 Special Meeting of the Board opened at 7;00 P. M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messers. Hopkins, Donahue, Johnson, Zanni and Superintendent Putnam. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the location of a direct burial cable for the transmission of electricity from Main Street to the North Reading - Reading Town line in Charles Street and a portion of Haverhill Street. Chairman Dolben, Messers. Spurr and Wilcox, Municipal Light Commissioners, and Manager Stanford of the Municipal Light Department appeared before Board to request that a location be granted other than in the sidewalk area, citing existing obstruction and difficulty of construction in the normal sidewalk area on Haverhill Street. They ' requested that a permit be granted to occupy the traveled way portion of Haverhill Street, and presented an estimate prepared by the contractor doing the excavation, Bond Bros, of Everett, amounting to $10,690. for extras which he claimed would be necessary if compelled to adhere to the normal sidewalk area. After a detailed discussion, it was agreed by the Board of Public Works and the Municipal Light Commissioners that Superintendent Putnam and Manager Stanford would review the contractors claim for extras, re- examine the proposed original location on Haverhill Street, and report back to the Board of Public Works on Monday evening November 28, 1955 on their findings, when the Board of Public Works would again consider the Municipal Light Commissioners request for a new location for the direct ' burial cable. Board Adjourned at 9:20 P. M. Respectfully Submitted; e 5eba IL
