Regular Meeting of the Board opened at 700 P. M.
Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messers. Hopkins, Johnson and
Superintendent Putnan .
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to confer with
Health and Plumbing Inspector Kenneth Shaw, to ascertain what method can
be legally devised to insure that roper cellar elevations be set for

new home constructionhand /to report back to Board on the outcome of the
conference.
Letter received from Paulette Realty Trust, Oak Street near West
Street, requesting a cellar drain connection. Superintendent reported
that cellar was too low to connect by gravity with the stomn drain.
Moved, seconded and voted to leave the subject matter of this request
to the Superintendent' s judgement and discretion.
Received letter from Harry E. Smite, citing a complaint regarding
the final grading of the sewer easement through his property Westerly of
Lowell Street. Referred to Superintendent, who was instructed to defer
acknowledgement of letter until the Superintendent had held a conference
with the Town Counsel regarding the complaint.
Chairman Edward PRImer, Messers. Willard, Florence and Johnson of
Elementary School Building Committee met with the Board at 8:30 P. M.
to discuss problems relating to utilities and roads necessary for Forest
Street Elementary School. The following items were tentatively agreed
to by the Board and the Committee, subject to change as events progress:

Elementary School Road - Forest Street to Birch Meadow include
In bond issue for school construction, if State Aid
can be procured; if State Aid cannot be procured,
road to be constructed by Public Works Dept.
.►t Water Mains - Public Works Dept. to install 811 main from Fordst
Street, and necessary fire hydrants, to within five
feet of school building,
!E Sewer Main - Public Works Dept. to install, from man hole outside
school building to Senior High School interceptor in
Birch Meadow; Clinton F. Goodwin, Elementary School
Building Committee engineer, to make necessary survey

Moved, aeconddddd ed and voted to nool d SpecialpMeetings of the Board
of Public Works on Thursday December 1, 1955, Thursday December 15, 1955
and to omit the regular Board meeting on Monday December 5, 1955.
Superintendent instructed to notify A. J. Tambone that his appoint-
ment with the Board to discuss drainage problem on Sturges Road has been
postponed to Monday December 12, 1955 at 8:30 P. M.
Received letter from Board of Selectmen regarding flooded condition
at Southerly end of Whittier Road, at a foot path where High School pupils
cross to Birch Meadow Drive. Board was assured by Superintendent that a
gravel foot path had been constructed in this area along a Town drain
easement to correct condition.
Moved, seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to negotiate
land takings from property owners to effect a passa_;e-way for pedestrians

between Whittier Road and Birch Meadow Drive .
Moved seconded and voted to recommend
to Board of Selectmen
that Waverly Road from Hillside Road to Oakland Road be abandoned as a
roadway.
Considered possible access roads to proposed Addison - Wesley
Manufacturing site Southerly of South Street. Superintendent instructed
to make certain studies on possible access roads to this area, and report
back to Board on his findings.
Considered letter of permission for street opening for direct
burial cable written by Superintendent to Manager of Reading Municipal
Light Dept, and approved locations granted as defined in said letter; is,
in the normal sidewalk area of Charles Street and Haverhill Street, two
and one-half feet on the street side of the street line.
Board adjourned at 11:25 P. M.
