Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7 :30 P. M .
Present were Chairman Kilgore, Aessers Hopkins, Donahue and
Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Received letter from Board of Selectmen requesting abandon-
ment of a 20 foot wide easement adjacent to the Reading-Wakefield
Town Line from John Street to Ash Street. On recommendation of
Superintendent, moved, seconded and voted to abandon easement as
requested, and notify Selectmen of such action.
Hearing at 8..00 P. M. on direct burial caole for Reading
Municipal Light Department on Lowell Street. Following listed abut-
ting property owners were present, and expressed their opinion as
designated:

Voted to lay petition on table for later consideration.
Received verbal request from Board of Selectmen to release
land on John Street now used as new dumping area, adjacent to
Wakefield-Reading Town line. Instructed Superintendent to investi-
gate and report back to Board.
�., Temporarily adjourned at 8:30 P. M. to act as Board of Survey.
Reconvened at 8.50 as Board of Public Works.
Reviewed Special Town Meeting items as presented by Super-
intendent.. On recommendation of Superintendent, moved, seconded and
voted to request transfer of $21,000.00 from Water Available Surplus,
divided $20,000.00 for expenses, $1,000.00 for personal services.
Received report from Superintendent regarding fencing of
Bolton Street drain ditch. After short discussion, matter was taken
under advisement.
Temporarily adjourned at 9:45 P. M, to meet with Finance Commi-
ttee to discuss articles for Special Town Meeting of October 27, 1955.
Reconvened at 10:15 P. M.
Received letter from County Commissioners advising Board that a
hearing would be held by the Commission of the State Department of
Public Works at 10x00 A. M. Wednd�sday October 26, 1955 at the County
Commissioners Office, Court House, East Cambridge, for discussion of
matters pertaining topublic roads. Superintendent instructed to
attend this hearing, and it was moved, seconded And voted to authorize
Superintendent to request the following funds for 1956 Construction
and Maintenance under Chapter 90 provisions:
$50,000.00 for Chapter 90 Construction on West Street.
} 6,000.00 for Chapter 90 Maintenance on various roads.
Received report from Superintendent on flooding of Willow St.
Sewage Pumping Station on October 15, 1955 because of damage to sewer
manhole in Birch Meadow grading project caused by equipment under con-
trol of School Dept. Contractor. Voted to bill contractor for damages
to sewer pumping station and sewer manhole.
Received request for abatement of water and sewer bills from
Miss Helen Byron, 67 Mt. Vernon Street, who had received excessively
large water and sewer rental bills -
e,ebesi. Moved, seconded and voted to abate 5U°, of excess water
and sewer 'bills.
