HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-09-12 Board of Public Works Minutes September 12, 1955 Regular meeting of the Board opened at 7:30 P. M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue, Johnson and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to grant permission to New England Telephone and Telegraph Company to relocate pole on Summer Avenue, westerly side, opposite Knoll- wood Road. Received petition for extension of common sewer in Michelinl Lane - accepted, and placed on file for processing in usual manner. On recommendation of Superintendent, voted to award sewer con- tract on bids opened September 6, 1955 for construction of sewer on portion of Lowell Street, County Road and Lothrop Road to the low bidder, 0. Menici &. Sons, 87 High Street, Danvers, Maes. for the bid price of $21,977.00. Received letter from T. F. Hanron, District Highway Engineer, State Department of Publlc' Works, advising Burd that due to latenees of season, 1955 West Street Chapter 90 Construction, if advertised' in 1955, Would require a completion date of June 30, 1956, limiting the work of the contractor to� drainage only in 1955, for the purpose or preventing a hazardous condition for traffic during the winter months. The letter also stated that requests could be made to the State and County' to hold over allotted funds to 1956. On recommendation of Superintendent it was moved, secondedand voted to request State Department of Public Works to advertise f or West Street 1955 Chapter 90 Construction bids as soon as possible. Received letter fromHeber E. Crocker, builder, requesting Board to sign plan of Linnea (Private) Lane, and stating that his $8,000.00 performance bond would be filed Tuesday, Septemler 13. Temporarily adjourned to meet as Board of Survey at 8:30 P.M. Reconvened as Board of Public Works at 8:40 P.M. Discussed at length list. of streets recommended by Superintendent for block-system bituminous concrete force sidewalk construction under the Betterment Act. Moved, seconded and voted to hold public hearing on force side- walk construction on Woburn Street, both sides, from Easterly of Pratt Street to West Street, on properties where gravel or dirt sidewalks presently exist, said public hearing to be held on September 26, 1955. Other streets suggested were portion of Summer Avenue and Oak Street.
