HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-08-15 Board of Public Works Minutes 121 August 15, 1955 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs, Hopkins, Donahue, Zanni, Johnson and Superintendent Putnam. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Hearing held at 8:00 P.M. on extension of common sewer on County Road, from Howard Street to Wescroft Road. Moved, seconded and voted to incorporate in records of the Board all official notices and news items concerning Board of Public Works activities, particularly those appearing In The Reading Chronicle, and including those items which have recently been published. Received petitions signed by several citizens for sewer extension in Willow Street, Vine Street and Vale Road. Petitions noted and placed on file for usual action. ' On recommendation of Superintendent, voted to install a telephone at the home of John D. Lousnis, Pumping Station Engineer, said telephone to be one party contiguous service at $4.75 per month. On recommendation of Superintendent, voted to engage the firm of H. H. McGuire & Co. to armor-coat Ash Street and parts of Summer Avenue at a cost to the Town of 13¢ square yard. On recommendation of Superintendent, voted to purchase a Hough Model HU one cubic yard front-end loader from Clyde Everett Equipment Co. at the bid price of $8840.00, delivery to be made In early October, and to accept until delivery the rent-free use of a used Model HF Hough payloader from Clyde Everett -Equipment Co. , subject however to proper insurance coverage of .the loaned vehicle. Received note from Superintendent informing Board that County Engineer Howard S. Hatch had stated that the County has completed the engineering work on West Street, and the roadway is now being designed by the State Department of Public Works for construction contract. Voted to advertize for sewer construction bids on Lowell Street, County Road and Lothrop Road, bids to be opened on Tuesday evening, September 6, 1955. Discussed at some length possibility of requiring developers to install permanent-type pavements such as hot-mix, bituminous macadam, etc. , also edgestone, and other improvements. No decision arrived at. Mr. Warren Charles appeared before Board to discuss concrete side- walk installation abutting his property corner Bancroft Avenue and Lowell Street. Mr. Charles offered to bear cost of surfacing If Town would excavate and gravel fill Bancroft Avenue frontage. Taken under advisement. Board adjourned at 10:45 P.M.
