The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M.
Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue, Zanni and
Superintendent Putnam.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Hearing at 7:45 P.M. on New England Tel. & Tel. underground conduit
on Summer Avenue, opposite Putnam Avenue, Wakefield, said conduit being a
part of the United States Government "Niki" installation. No abuttors
were present. Moved, seconded and voted to grant conduit location.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on drain easement on Forest Street, Westerly of
Van Norden Road. Following abuttors were present, who expressed their
opinions as shown:

Hearing at 8:30 P.M. on drain easement on West Street, opposite
Selfridge Road. Following persons present, who expressed their opinions
as shown:-

Marguerite Parker 500 West St. N.C.
Received letter from D. Federico Co. , sewer contractor, requesting
permission to work on Saturdays, and offering to pay salary of Town
Inspector on Saturdays. Board moved, seconded and voted, on recommenda-
tion of Superintendent, to permit Saturday work, Town to pay Inspector on
regular payroll, and to deduct Inspector' s Saturday wages from contractor' s
regular payment certificates.
Received letter from Personnel Board approving the promotion of
iWilliam E. MacBrien, Rodman, to the position of Transitman at a starting
wage of $1. 56 per hour.

Received report from Superintendent regarding the final disposition
of a redivision plan of lots on Henzie Street owned by John C. Daly
which was not approved by the Board . of Public Works and was certified '
for recording in the Registry of Deeds by the Town Clerk.
Received letter from Sydney L. Curry, Town Meeting Member - Pr. 4,
protesting the fact that footprints on Main Street sidewalk, between the
old and new location of F. W. Woolworth Co. stores , were still visible.
Board instructed Superintendent to write Mr. Curry and advise him that
efforts to eradicate the painted foot-prints had been and were being made.
Received letter from Mr. Arthur Marchinko, Jr. , owner of land on
Walnut Street, suggesting that he purchase drain pipe and materials and
Town furnish labor for piping drain brook. After some discussion, it was
moved,seconded and voted to instruct Superintendent to inform Mr.Marchinko,Jr.
that no Town funds would be available for piping the brook for two or
three years , and that any immediate relief of the situation by the Town ,
could not be obtained.
Signed pole location permit on Van Norden Road, relocating Pole 136/4
southerly 9 feet, to clear driveway to residence.
Received letter from Barbara E. Sumner, Secretary, Circulation In-
formation Committee, First Church of Christ, Scientist, requesting per-
mission to install an honor paper rack for the sale of the Christian
Science Monitor on Reading Common, Main St. corner of Harnden Street, at
the North Reading Bus Stop. Voted to grant permission as requested.
Discussed at some length proposed Municipal Light Department direct
burial power transmission cable on Charles Street and Haverhill Street
from Main Street to the Reading-North Reading Town Line. A public hearing
is to be held on Monday evening, July 18, 1955 on this petition. '
On recommendation of the Superintendent, it was moved, seconded
and voted to purchase the following new trucks:-

Carleton & Gray, Main Street, Reading
' One (1) Ford F500 - 17' Ton Truck - Chassis and Cab, at the
Bid Price of $1,888.00 plus radius rods and fish plating
frame. Total $2,113 .00.
Classen Bros . , Main Street, Wakefield
One (1) Dodge C3GA6 1� Ton Truck with body, at Bid. Price of
$2,260.00 plus radius rods and fish plating frame. Total ?$2,485.00
Voted to postpone action on 2j Ton Truck purchase for one week.
Voted to review front end loader bids on July 18.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
