HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-06-20 Board of Public Works Minutes June 20, 1955 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs. Hopkins, Donahue and Superin- tendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on drain easement through land of William F. Pitman, 27 ,Grove Street. Drain will be piped from Grove Street to Birch Meadow Brook, entirely through Mr. Pitman' s property. Mr. Pitman attended Hearing and specified his approval. Board moved, 'seconded and voted to take drainage and sewerage easement as recommended 'by Superintendent. Hearing at 8:15 P .M. on drain easement through land of George M. McSheehy, 14 Harvard Street,, Mr. McSheehy, present at Hearing, signified his approval of easement. Board moved; seconded and voted to abandon sector of original easement, take new easement in drain ditch location, ' as recommended by Superintendent. Hearing at 8:30 P.M. on drain easement through'private property from accepted portion of Cape Cod Avenue Westerly, Northerly and Easterly to Deering Street. Selfridge, 88 Colburn Road, interviewed the Board to protest additional drainage on Selfridge Road and Catherine Avenue, streets being developed by him Easterly of West Street. He particularly protested the additional cost to him, and requested the Board to have the labor cost of the additional drains borne by the Town, he to furnish the necessary materials. Matter taken under advisement. Discussed present sewer betterment assessment procedures at some length, with particular reference to the Reading Sewerage Act of 1909 and amendments thereto. Received request from Cedarville Trust to extend time limit of completion date of Richards (Private) Road to September 1, 1955, and to reduce existing $10,000.00 performance bond to $5,000.00. Present bond expires June 22, 1955. On recommendation of Superintendent, it was moved, seconded and voted to reduce amount of performance bond on Richards (Private) Road to $5,000.00, and to extend completion date to Sept. 1, 1955. Received letter from Norman R. Stanford, Lot 30 Glenmere Circle, requesting permission to connect cellar drain to storm water drain in Glenmere Circle. Moved, seconded and voted to permit connection, subject to usual requirements. On recommendation of Superintendent, moved, seconded and voted to lay an 8" water main in Mark Avenue Extension, and a 6" water main in Milton Road. On recommendation of Superintendent, it was moved, seconded and voted to request permission of Personnel Board to promote Rodman William E. MacBrien to the position of Transitman with a starting wage of ' $1.56 per hour. Board adjourned at 10:20 P.M. ' Respectfully submitted; Seers II
