HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-06-13 Board of Public Works Minutes June 13, 1955 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs. Hopkins, Zanni, Donahue and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Held following listed pole location hearings at 7:45 P.M. New England Tel.& .Tel. Co., and Reading Municipal Light Dept. , jointly owned pole on West Street, Westerly side, approx. 162 feet Southerly from Selfridge Road. Jointly owned pole on Grove Street, Westerly Side, approk. 163 feet Northerly from Spruce Road. Jointly owned pole on Grove Street, Westerly side opposite the division property line between lands of Mildred H. Emerson and lands of Annie C. Freeman. Only person present was Mr. William Whalen of New England Telephone and Telegraph Co., who was in favor of subject matter of hearings and who explained necessity of new pole locations. Voted to sanction above listed pole locations, and signed necessary forms for filing with Town Clerk. At 8:00 P.M. joint meeting was held with the Finance Committee in Room 2. Methods of charging abuttors under the Betterment Act on sidewalk; curbing, highway and sewer construction was discussed at some length. Sewer frontage assessments and construction charges were carefully considered, as were various Reading Sewer Acts and amendments thereto. Anticipated 1956 Budget items relating to Main sewer construction and sewer house connections were also reviewed at some length. Temporarily adjourned at 10:00 P.M. to act as Board of Survey, Reconvened at 10:15 as Board of Public Works. On recommendation of Superintendent, voted to set vacation dates for Departmental employees from July 16 - 31, 1955, both dates inclusive. 120 -z- Received report from Superintendent on three low bidders on 1955 sewer contract. On recommendation of Superintendent, moved, seconded and voted to award bid to D. Federico Co., the second bidder, for the bid price of $37,641.75. Examined and approved for Supt's. , signature following listed Registry of Deeds plan: Plan of Lot on Torre Street - Surveyed by H. Kingman Abbott Received letter from Bowen & Cohen, Attorneys, protesting delay in approval of Registry of Deeds re-division plan on Henzie Street sub- mitted by ,John Daly.
