Moved, seconded and voted that the Chairman send the following
answer to the State Department of Public Works:
Mr. Robert B. MacKinnon May 3, 1955
District Waterways Engineer
Department of Public Works
Boston, Mass,
Dear Sir:
We have received the letter signed by Mr, Bessette
' of the Division of Waterways dated April 25, 1955 and comment
as follows:
It would appear that your department is not yet in a
position to fully assess the effects of the proposed lowering
of the Ipswich River Channel upon the ground water supply of the
Town of Reading.
Obviously, preservation of our water supply is a matter of
prime importance to the citizens of this town. We recommend there-
fore that your department review its plans for channel improvements,
in order to determine if a satisfactory design can be developed to
minimize lowering of the , ground water table in the vicinity of the
Town of Reading well field and minimize consequent effects on the yield of
this water source.
Very truly yours,
(Signed) Harold D, IIAZ1irman
