A Special meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M.
L Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messers. Hopkins, Johnson, Zanni and
Supt. , Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Discussed posting of 1955 salary increases at garage. Voted Supt. ,
permission to post list, with some minor changes.
Received letter from Philip Althoff, Athletic Director, of Reading
High School, enclosing 1955 Reading High School Varsity and Junior
Varsity Baseball Schedule, with requested dates for using Washington
Street Park and Birch Meadow Playground baseball diamonds.
Voted permission as requested.
Received letter from Reading Post 685, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
enclosing list of locations where bhey desire to erect "Drive Safely"
V.F.W. Traffic Signs. Voted to approve request, after Supt. , approves
individual locations.
Received petition from New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. ,
for underground cable installation on Woburn Street, from Washingtn St.,
to High St. , Voted installation permit.
Received petition from New England Telephone and Telegraph Co.,
to abandon pole on Pratt Street 200 feet Southerly of Woburn Street.
Permission granted.
Received letter from North Shore Sand and Gravel Co., of Beverly,
containing an offer to purchase the old gravel screening plant for $250.00
Belkars and the 1937 Barber-Greene Bucket Loader for $150.00.
Voted to invite bids on gravel plant, and to hdd loader for trade-in
Lon new equipment.
Received letter from Mrs. George D. MacPhail, 149 West Street,
requesting action on petition for sewer extension submitted by her in

in June, 1953. Taken under advisement by Board.
Received following petitions for sewer extensions, which were
accepted and placed on file: Deering Street, Harriman Avenue, Tennyson
Road, Whittier Road.
Discussed sewer house connection problem at some length. Houses
to be served by new sewer extensions are not being connected to the new
sewer. After some discussion, voted to present sewer house connection
application blank to each abuttor at sewer extension hearings, and to
poll abuttors at the hearing as to their need for sewer house connections.
Received recommendation from Supt., on locations to be served by
1955 sewer extensions. List approved as submitted.
See Attached sheet.
Votedto hold public hearings on approved list, grouped in units,
starting April 25, 1955.
Voted to discuss sewer frontage assessment increases at meeting of
Board to be held April 18, 1955.
Signed Hurricane Account payrolls for payment by the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts.
Board adjourned 10:40 P.M.
