HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-02-21 Board of Public Works Minutes February 21, 1955 The regular meeting of tUe Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messrs, Hopkins, Donahue, Johnson, Zanni and Superintendent Putnam. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P. M. to act as Board of Survey. Reconvened at 8:30 P. M. as Board of Public Works. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph L. Lake, 16 Lafayette Road, appeared before Board to discuss possibility of obtaining water service to a contemplated new dwelling house on Lafayette Road, a private way off North Main St. Matter taken under advisement, pending further investigation by Superin- tendent. Received letter from Mr. John T. Ainsworth, 21 Woodbine Street, requesting partial abatement of excessive water bill. Voted to abate the sum of #10.00. Voted to insert notices In the Reading Chronicle on publication dates of May 5, June 2, July 7 and August 4 advising home-owners that outside water taps should be shut off from inside buildings when owners leave houses unoccupied during vacation absence, to prevent possible wastage of water and resulting excessive water bills. Voted to hold a special meeting of the Board on Thursday evening, March 3, 1955, and to invite former Board Members, Harry R. Walker and James E. Calvin to attend meeting. Received notice of hearing from State Dept. of Public Works regarding proposed channel improvements on Ipswich River. Hearing to be held on March 7 at 100 Nashua St. Boston. Voted to permit owner of land at South-East corner of Hopkins and Main Streets to relocate and pipe existing open drain ditch presently 12 bisecting property, providing suitable easement rights are given Town. Discussed at some length release of major portion of Birch Meadow' Playground area to Board of Selectmen. for ultimate transfer to School Committee for HSgh� School play area purposes. Voted to rescind vote of Board at meeting held February 7,1955• Voted to release to Board of Selectmen that portion of Birch Meadow Playground shown as Play Area No. 10 on�B.P.W. Plan A-17-53, and by unanimous vote of entire Board 'authorized Chairman Kilgore to execute said transfer by letter to Board of Selectmen. Received letter from County Commissioners notifying Board that hearing on relocation of Franklin Street would be held at the Office of the County Commissioners in Superior Court House, East Cambridge on 'Tuesday, March 29, 1955 at 10:30 A. M. ' , Discussed; edited and approved as corrected 1954 Annual Report of the Board of Public Works to the citizens of Reading. Adjourned at 11:05 P. M. Respectfully Submitted:
