The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:3G. P.M.
ISI Present were Chairman Kilgore, Messers, Hopkins, Johnson, Zanni,
and Superintendent Putnam.
Minutes of previous meeting. read and approved.
Received letter f rom A. Waldo Phinney requesting that an open
drain ditch running through a lot of land owned by him corner of Oak Street
and Oak Ridge Road be relocated to the Southerly lot line and pipe, Mr.
Phinney to purchase drain pipe, the Town to take the easement , excavate, lay
and backfill the pipe. Held over for drainage discussion.
Received note from Superintendent to effect that Main Street,
North in Reading would not be resurfaced in 1955. This information was
obtained by Secretary Donahue from Mr. Gordon Gray, Cbief Engineer, State
Department of Public Works,
Discussed 1955 Budget at great length.
Chairman Carl Amon of Finance Committee and Mr. Joshua Day of
Finance Committee met informally with Board to discuss 1955 budget totals.
Several items discussed at some length.
Members present voted unanimously to promote Highway Foreman Ernest
R. Watson to the position of Assistant Superintendent , as recommended
by the Superintendent , at salary of 90.10 per week.
Voted to petition Personnel Board to confirm salary of Ernest
R. Watson as Assistant Superintendent at $90.10 per week.
Voted to request Personnel Board to effect that, in view of
responsibilities vested in office of Assistant Superintendent the maximum
wage rate for that position be held at 1105.00 per week as a permanent
Cfigure.
Board adjourned at 11:40 P.M.
