The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Walker, Messrs. Hopkins, Johnson and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting were read and approved.
Received letter from Insurance Comm. relative to lightning
and wind insurance on standpipes.
Voted to write asking for rates /M. on both.
Received letter from Selectmen relative to dumping sewage in
manhole on John Street.
Voted to require sewage tanks to have extension to discharge
. pipe so that pipe will extend into manhole while sewage is being dis-
charged. It was noted that the new sewage discharge location will
be ready about July 1954•
Considered sheets showing projected capital expenditures for
years 1954 to 1959 inclusive. These are copies of sheets filed with
the Finance Comm.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed pole location on Pine Ridge Rd.
Following persons present:
Mr. William Whalen - Representing N. E. Tel. & Tel. Co.
Voted to approve pole location as follows:
Pine Ridge Rd. - J. 0. Pole - East Side - 830 feet
north of Walnut St.
Hearing at 8:15 P.M. on proposed pole location on Ash St.
No one present.
Voted to approve pole location as follows:
Ash St. - East side - Pole 2/18 - T. of R. - 424 feet
north of Avon St.

Conferred with Finance Comm. on 1954 Budget and projected
capital expenditures from 1954 to 1959 inclusive.
Voted to issue permit to Reading Youth Council to hold an
ice carnival on Sturges Park on February 23, 1954.
Considered all fees and assessments charged by this Depart-
ment for various betterments.
Voted to establish new fees for Granolithic Sidewalks. ,
Bituminous Concrete Sidewalks and Granite Curbing as follows:
A. The assessment for Granolithic Sidewalks, Bituminous
Concrete Sidewalks and Granite Curbing shall be one
half the actual cost but in any case shall not exceed
$1.70 per lineal foot.
B. This fee shall be for actual work in the public way
and shall not nclud any extra w rk 0 ivaete.�AD

C. This fee applies only to sidewalks four and one half
feet in width and the fee for sidewalks of a width in
excess of four and one half feet. shall be proportion-
_—.tely larger.
Signed two copies of plans showing proposed relocation and
alteration of the layout lines of South Street between West Street
and Hyhapi Lane.

The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading, having
determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity require
that the public highway be laid out, relocated or altered as and in
the location hereinafter described, having complied with all require-
ments of law relating to notice to owners of land thereof and of a
hearing thereon, and having met at the time and place appointed for
such hearing and then and there heard all persons present, who desired

for the use of the Town, a portion of the Easterly and Westerly side- j

ALTERATION AND RELOCATION OF A PORTION OF
WEST STREET

The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading, having
determined and adjudged that common convenience and necessity require
that the public highway be laid out, relocated or altered as and in
the location hereinafter described, having complied with all require-
ments of law relating to notice to owners of land thereof and of a
hearing thereon, and having met at the time and place appointed for
such hearing and then and there heard all persons present, who
desired to be heard, have laid out, relocated or altered as a public
highway for the use of the Town, portions of the Easterly and Westerly
sidelines of West Street. The boundaries and measurements of said
public highway as so laid out, relocated or altered are as follows:
The Westerly side line of West Street as herein laid out,
relocated or altered begins at a drill hole in a stone bound
located in said Westerly side line of West Street at its inter-
section with a curved line marking the junction of said Westerly
side line of West Street with the Southerly side line of a
public town way known as Winslow Road;
Thence N.22o-O1'-50"W. , by the Easterly terminus of said
Winslow Road, and by lands of William T. Maxwell, Jr. and
Shirley A. Maxwell, a distance of 180.10 feet to an angle point;
Thence N.20o-181-09"W. , by lands of Realty Construction of
New England, Inc. , a distance of 111.24 feet to an angle pointi
Thence N.160-241-25"W. , still by and through lands of said
Realty Construction of New England, Inc. , through lands of

side line of Summer Avenue, a public town way in said Reading;

December, 1953, said Plan being a part of this description.
We determine that no damages will be sustained by any person
or persons in their property by reason of the taking to be made for
this improvement.
No betterments are to be assessed for this improvement.
This laying out, relocation or alteration so made by us
we hereby report to the Town for acceptance and recommend that when
thrs report is accepted and adopted by the Town, that said public high-
way shall thereafter be laid out, relocated or altered in accordance
with said plan.
